  1. I am wondering what we have to do to get the 4th Estate to do their job. Jaycee is right, The 5th Estate has been telling the useless journos for at least three years what a danger Abbott was, and what a totally useless Front Bench the Liberal Party had. Did they listen, Not a prayer.

  2. CK,

As I’m a bit late requesting my favourite numbers so I am more than happy to leave it up to you to choose suitable numbers for me tonight.

  3. fiona

[Is this someone you sleep with or drink with or both?]

I lesson but don’t collect. And only say what I’ve heard in very limited circumstances.

  4. The Fourth Estate are simply doing what their proprietors desire. Journos do what they are paid to do, just following orders. Luckily the journos owners are losing their monopoly on setting the agenda and controlling information flow.

  5. And cop that fool : Bazz Cazz…he got dudded by the Abbott just after the election and now he’s there again, like some star-struck stage-door johnny sucking up to his “hero” …. : “…fool me twice shame on me.”

  7. For those who have never seen it and for those who have, I present a lovely clip much closer to home with my daughter helping out the instrumentals on the violin.

Enjoy what a group of far western country kids can do.

  8. scorpio6to2

I’ve started a list of all raffle aficionado’s who prefer set numbers, if you want to request a specific set of numbers it can be done. It sure makes my life easier on a friday arvo.

  9. Jason notified me Shorten, Swan & Plibersek are visiting SA to talk to the faithful.

Definitely want to attend the Swan event—have his book, would love it signed. Might be there for Shorten, me and old Mum will attend the Plibersek lunch (early October.)

  10. C K Watt,

I seem to have a fancy for 19, 31 & 39 in most Goose Club and other raffles so would be extremely happy to have them as regular numbers for the Friday Raffles!

  11. CK

Wow, Razz last week and me this week, thanks. Starting to think this might be a conspiracy. Oh and I’ll have a lotto ticket thanks, winnings into the kitty.

  12. Thank you CK. Much appreciated. Even if I don’t win, I still win more from this raffle than from what we receive from our electricity company under these “Liberal” governments.

You see, we received a nice postcard from Synergy today to let us know that according to their tables my class of energy customer (small) will get back a whopping $46 of annual cost savings from the Carbon Tax repeal for the period that began on 1 July 2014.
We will also be receiving a reduction in the Renewable Energy Buyback Scheme rates, so we will be producing 450″units” from our solar panels for nearly 1.75 cents per unit less. As we were only getting 8c/u before, I’m feeling ‘terribly impressed’ … not!

  14. The MSM is going to hail Abbott’s India trip some sort Hail Cesar Triumph. They are busy shedding rose petals to strew in his path. I might add a few rotten spuds to the mix.

  15. Some people get awards just for being there … anywhere

In a nod to deeper Australia-Holland relations, Ms Bishop’s Dutch counterpart Frans Timmermans presented her with the green and gold-starred medal, topped with a blue, red and green ribbon for her diplomatic à€work in the aftermath of the crash of MH17 in Ukraine.

    http://www.smh.com.au/world/nato-summit-a-medal-for-julie-bishop-and-promises-of-more-help-for-ukraine-20140905-10cq4o.html

And don’t get me started on why she’s in Newport.

  16. If they cut the solar rebate back far enough, and the cost of batteries goes down to affordable levels, I would be tempted to go off grid so I do not have to deal with electricity suppliers at all. I had my electricity rate cut by 7.2% from cutting out the ETS charge, but my bloody supply charge went up. I did not do the maths but I reckon half the cut was lost, and the next supply charge hike will take it all. And out of that I do not get to live in a country with an ETS and doing the right thing by the planet.

  17. Mark Kenny, traveling with Abbott, has written the most cringe-worthy piece of garbage on Abbott’s Indian trip. Read at your own risk, have a large bucket handy.

A few inaccuraces – this may be Abbott’s first state visit to India but it is not a prime ministerial first. Other PMs have had the honour, including Julia Gillard, who laid the foundations -rightly or wrongly depending on your own views -for that sale of uranium.

Abbott has not waved a magic wand and miraculously provided power for all of India. Like most other nations, India is looking to renewables, not coal-fired power.

I couldn’t stomach reading it all, I’m sure the rest is as much a work of fantasy as the bits I managed.

There is no way on Earth I would read one word of anything Kenny writes. As well as writing complete shyte, he is also one the more boring writers ever to put pen to paper.

  19. Barnyard was raving about the growing dairy exports to China. I immediately realised that this would not have been possible without Julia negotiating direct conversion of the Australian and Chinese currencies, not something monkey could negotiate in 20 years!

  20. Butler has this one cute dimple. And yes, his intro was great. I like Combet’s comment, about meeting people who complain about Abbott and his useless gov’t, “So what are you doing about it?”

As he said, fight ya b’tards, fight!

  21. Sir Pent. (@PolAnimalAus)

The numbers triumphantly rolled out by Barnyard would make kiwis burst out laughing. Very much “Is that all there is?” compared to Fonterra. Barnyard needs constant reminding that his lot were the people who oversaw the changes that allowed Australia’s cow cockies to be royally screwed over.

  22. Greg Combet and AGL –

A former climate change minister says coal seam gas is the solution to soaring energy costs and carbon reduction needs.

Greg Combet, federal Minister for Climate Change under the last Labor government, has penned a piece for the Australian Financial Review in conjunction with former Minister Assisting the Prime Minister on Asian Century Policy, Craig Emerson.

The two men once central to the Labor party and union movement now work as consultants with clients including gas giant AGL. They are strongly critical of conservative governments for holding up onshore gas development.

Both key figures during the disjointed string of Labor Prime Minister-swapping, Emerson and Combet say community concerns are important, but doing nothing about CSG will see Australian jobs drift to the US.

Mr Combet wrote that it makes sense to “dramatically increase domestic gas production, to ensure that the supply of gas keeps prices down and encourages investment in gas-fired power generation rather than coal”.

“This would enable us, similar to the US, to significantly cut emissions.”
