Fiona,
I’m sitting here cracking up. I just had an image of Tony at the negotiation table! Ha. Will never happen! lol
Fiona
True. Sort of like a Coalition politican, really. I’ve heard more gibberish from them in the last few days than i’ve heard in my whole life.
Take this example – HoJo’s response to Cathy McGowan’s question on youth unemployment- he’s going to fix it by paying employers to take on more over 50s. It seems 50 is the new 18. Or something.
http://www.bordermail.com.au/story/2286363/joe-hockeys-response-to-youth-jobs-question-has-cathy-mcgowan-shaking-head/
I don’t think Abbott could even say ‘negotiation’ let alone understand what it is.
I would consider voting for a good independent, but I haven’t seen any on the ballot here in Fraser that I can recall. And history suggests it’s the safe seats like Fraser where independents and minor parties can win.
ajcanberra,
I’d love a Windsor or an Oakey type in my LNP infested electorate.
PM Blood Oaf may be incapable of uttering the word “negotiation”, but according to the excellent Tony Windsor (whom I still intend marrying when I grow up), he has said wtte something about selling his arse.
As if anyone would want to buy it.
Oh dear!

Spacey and Leone,
Please note my definition of expediency in my original comment (as amended – sometime between 9:55pm and 9:59pm):
In my opinion, bludgeoning opponents sits well with “self-interested manipulation”.
SK, the PM expects everyone to simply do what he wants. I remember an interview with one of his sisters, where she made it clear that the Abbott household operated on the principle “whatever Tony wants, Tony gets”, largely stemming from his status as the much-wanted son after a batch of daughters.
He has been raised to believe everyone, especially women, should just do what he tells them to.
It couldn’t happen to a nicer chappie. He’s one of the restaurateurs most vocal about doing away with penalty rates.
It’s also 10 minutes’ walk away from home, but I will NEVER enter it as long as he has any association with it.
Fiona,
Sums it up nicely.
AJ,
Interesting to note. Explains a lot about his character.

Leone,
I’m about to engage in several sources of told-to history.
Apparently David Jones used to issue store / credit cards to all students at the University of Sydney. Certainly they did so when my father (left school at 14, in 1933, completed his education under the returned service scheme introduced by Ben Chifley) was at the university. (According to my parents, for some years the DJs card was the difference between food and not eating for some months after my arrival).
Anyway, DJs continued giving Sydney Uni students store cards, at least in the first half of the 1970s.
A friend of mine was a proud recipient of one of those cards. He was even prouder when he, and a few others, discovered that whoever was in charge of the wine department of the Food Hall thought that earlier vintages should be marked down.
Apparently they managed to snaffle a remarkable number of oustanding vintages at extraordinarily good prices.
And when you have an hour to spare, this is a must.
Yes, one could that Shortens speech was negative, very negative about Tony’s amazing budget.
Big difference between Bill and Tony, is that the speech last night, was not connoted of three word slogans linked together, that from Tony, never made sense.,
Nor was it only abuse of the government.
Contrary to what Hockey says’, there was policy there. It was much more than just politics.
The speech was not based on lies or mistruths about what is in the budget.
All Abbott’s three word slogans where based on pure lies and misinformation.
What do we have today, Tony out, trying sell roads. Yes, in Western Sydney. I am sure many are excited about upgrading Elizabeth Drive and Northern Road. Not too sure where they live though. They are the last roads in that region, that most would worry about. Yes, new roads to nowhere fits Abbott
There are 30000 homes in the process of being built this side of Narellan, back towards Oran Pork and Liverpool. I am sure, even those people would find those plans exciting. Some are interested in what Abbott believes no one wants, the rail link being built to Oran Park. Yes, it I transport one wants, in this day and as. Australians have got over their love affair with roads, and the latest Holden or Ford.
Seen the word Medipharma research. Sums it up, I believe.
Fiona
I had one of those DJs cards when I was at Sydney Uni in the 1960s. They weren’t issued automatically, you had to apply for one, but they didn’t seem very fussy about who they gave them to. Can you imagine the uproar now if a store handed out credit cards to 17 year olds with, at best, only a student income? The cards allowed you to use a uni account. Mine was through the Manning House account and there was a credit limit, naturally.
I got my first credit card in uni in the early 80’s, an ANZ one with $200 limit.
They handed them out in O week. Literally threw them at us.
It was about now three years ago I got the call, and the doctor told me I needed to come into the hospital. I went into that hospital as Arthur’s wife. I left fourteen hours later as Arthur’s widow.

What utterly astounds me is that the abbott and HoJo would lay out their disgusting agenda in this, the first budget, and have the gall to think anyone with even half a brain would pat them on the back and then present them with cat-o-ninetails to beat them senseless at every turn. We knew the abbott is mad and we knew the rest of his crew lack the nous and the values Australians hold dear, but even I expected them to use stealth and cunning to achieve their ends.
If there are any voters out there who really thought ‘she’ll be right, mate. They won’t do that much to hurt us’ do not now see what happens when you believe lying, scheming, insane and brainless scumbags and vote them into power. When we get to vote again, will people flock to Clive Palmer to save their pathetic hides, or will they look back and see that Labor served them well and will do so again?
Janice..while I hold the same sentiments as yourself, my observations of those folk that I DO KNOW have LNP. sympathies, the men share uncannily, the same “narrow-eyed” lizard look as their “dear leader, while the women seem to have that bitter, vengeful look perfected by mesma….and any sympathy for the more needy or those “deserving poor” is wholly and solely restricted to themselves!
I had a quick squiz at Lenore Taylor’s piece and even in the first couple of sentences of her usual banality, I see she says that “…certainly Kevin Rudd underestimated Tony Abbott…” So one can see by such denial of MSM. involvement of “the creation of the image of Abbott” that the MSM. will once again bend over to accommodate the newest media phallus of LNP. “balancing the budget” fantasy…..I notice by the direction change even in The Guardian, steering the conversation away from political controversy to social debate…so rather than start-up new threads of discussion, the media is once again (thanks Geraldine on the ABC.) going back to : “Labor = disarray?”….”LNP. =fixing budgets”.
The forth estate media is absolute crap.
Mike Carlton –
Mike and I are the same age, give or take a couple of months. I agree with him 110% Lies. always lies, and in all that time the voters copped it, assumed it was normal. ‘All politicians lie’ they said, from way back when I was a kid. I heard that constantly, all my life. Then came Julia Gillard, who allegedly lied. The truth – she did not – was not allowed to be mentioned. They handled an alleged lie with more lies and destroyed a government. Now we have a prime minister who cannot open his mouth without telling yet another lie. It seems he has been getting away with lying his whole life. The adored first child and only son who could do no wrong, the uni thug, the cheating husband, the lying politician, all waved away with ‘That’s just Tony being Tony’. Now, at last, he is being held to account. his discomfort as Shorten spoke on Thursday night was a delight to see. It’s just the beginning.
All Abbott’s whining about Julia Gillard’s ‘lie’ finally penetrated the thick skulls of Australian voters. We were told over and over that it is a crime for a politician, especially a prime minister, to lie. That was drummed into us for three years and somehow we came to believe it. Abbott changed the dominating belief of my lifetime. Now we all have different expectations and standards. We believe a prime minister should be truthful. How delicious it is – the man who finally convinced us we should not tolerate lying politicians has finally been shown up as the biggest lying politician of them all. He has caught himself in his own web and it is wonderful to see.

It’s so nice to be rich enough to move overseas to avoid paying tax and to get away from those annoying creditors.
The abbott lied dozens of times every single day pre-election and he showed the vindictive nasty side of his personality continually, yet this was ignored in favour of denigrating our first female PM and branding Labor as a bunch of incompetents, crooks and wasteful spendthrifts. This budget has gone down in the electorates like a lead balloon and has lit up the whole of the coalition government as lying, deceitful cretins that our disgraceful msm did their utmost to hide during the Labor terms. We can thank the blatant arrogance of the abbott and HoJo for this budget which has, in one foul swoop, removed the blinkers from the voters eyes and made it virtually impossible for the abbott and HoJo leghorn to wriggle out from under the shite smelling anything but dirty and rotten to the core.
It will be interestng to see how much media coverage tomorrow’s marches will get. Last time I looked 7000 people had already signed up for the Melbourne march alone. There will be more by now.

Pink Batts Royal Commission media fail on Garrett’s impressive testimony
http://www.independentaustralia.net/politics/politics-display/pink-batts-royal-commission-media-fail-on-garrett-testimony,6482
GD, bat me too it. I just picked Hitler’s comments up on Twitter. One one the best of its genre.
GD , bat = beat.
Just back to Bill Shorten’s Reply, one thing I couldn’t avoid noticing was Mesma’s permanent, almost serene, smile. It contrasted nicely with the expressions of Abbott and Hockey. I wondered about the reasons for it.
Three options: 1. It was a patronising one along the lines of “go on, I dare you. Try and find a fault with our budget.” 2. She was silently enjoying the clear guilt and discomfort of Abbott and Hockey. 3. Her recent makeover might have included a facelift leaving her with a fixed smile.
Option 3. is looking possible, judging by her expression when trying to avoid the student protesters, but I’m open-minded about all of them.
That Hitler effort has to be their best yet.
That is true, Leone. But don’t forget also that Abbott admitted to lying to Kerry O’Brien. It’s hard to believe that the electorate went from ‘all politicians lie, see, even Abbott admitted it’ to ‘oh how disgusting a PM lied’ in such a short space of time. It’s tantamount to them holding two contradictory statements in their head and thinking nothing of it.
I don’t think it was the ‘lie’ that made the big difference in their minds. It was that the electorate could use ‘disgust’ at that ‘lie’ to argue for their own hip pockets. They leapt with glee on the whole carbon tax ‘lie’ thing because they felt they could save a buck or two out of it. I found that appalling, by the way. Not even attempting to understand a pressing environmental issue, and not being prepared to lift a finger to help, it’s just appalling.
And that’s what’s happening now. I don’t think the electorate at large could give a crap over whether Abbott lies or not. They only care that it’s affecting them personally. I think they still haven’t quite made the connection between the plethora of lies and what Abbott is actually doing to Australian society here. They think it’s a personal issue – ‘get rid of the imposts on my life personally and everything will be ok’ – which I suppose the LNP would like to use to set class against class. It’s encouraging that Uni students and the unemployed (usually scapegoats in these situations) are finding support from the electorate.
I had another point to make, but I’ve run out of time. Have to go out now. Always get my best ideas when I’ve got no time to express them.
GD
I’m going with option 2. I’m sure Mesma has had something done to her face during the parliamentary break. She looks different. Not better, just different and it’s not just the new hairdo or the different makeup. It’s not a full facelift, she still looks haggard and tired, but maybe there have been cheek implants or facial line fillers, possibly some lip enhancement. Whatever it was it has frozen that simper in place.
Take a look at the video of Mesma being jostled by protesting students yesterday. She seems to have the same smile fixed in place throughout.

Laurie Oakes: Treasurer Joe Hockey wears blame for Federal Budget
May 16, 2014 12:00AM
JOHN Scales, the experienced pollster who runs JWS Research, was out in the field quickly the day after the Budget, exploring voters’ reactions. And the initial verdict was clear. Tony Abbott and Joe Hockey had been too hard on people at the bottom of the income scale.
Or rather, Hockey had. Discussion in focus groups made up of people from four marginal Melbourne electorates suggested the Treasurer was carrying the can. The Prime Minister’s name was rarely raised without prompting.
“This is early indication stuff,” Scales says. It is presumably something the Government will try to deal with, though, because the coalition’s own pollsters would have reported the same thing.
Whether on their own behalf or out of concern for others, those in the JWS samples were very worried about the impact on lower income earners — particularly the elderly.
They had heard the Government’s message about all sections of society sharing the pain, but did not see the Budget as spreading the burden in anything like a fair or equal way.
……………………….
The incident of Hockey dancing to the song “The Best Day of My Life” just before unveiling his Budget of pain was also an own goal.
When I asked him about it on television — suggesting that those hit by the Budget were unlikely to see it as the best day of their lives — he was furious, accusing me of taking advantage of a private family moment and purveying gossip.
In fact, a Brisbane journalist and a News Corp photographer were present at Hockey’s invitation, so the moment was hardly private. As for gossip …
A story based on information from the photographer was quickly posted on the News Corp company’s website saying: “Before Mr Hockey delivered his first Budget he shared a candid moment with his wife Melissa, dancing to the song, optimistically perhaps, This Will Be The Best Day Of My Life.”
The journalist — Madonna King, who is writing a book on Hockey — later admitted in a newspaper article: “I’m partly to blame for the Treasurer dancing”. She had reminded him that “every Treasurer has had a song” and asked what his was.
King reported that, having selected the song at the suggestion of a family member, Hockey “said upfront that it would send the wrong message”. He was right.
That “Hitler” trick is very good!
Meanwhile , in the Senate, integrity is on the LNP agenda
