It’s chilly spring weather in Melbourne and in a few hours I’ll be off to vote at a distant booth as far away from the Young LibThugs as I can get without leaving the electorate. I’m also going alone: OH had better be very careful when anywhere near me for the next little while.

All pretty good reasons, in my book.
The Coalition, by contrast, has

not to mention a seriously scary internet “filter” that’s been dropped – for the moment …
The Coalition also has

(and those are just the stars) – a bunch that exceeds in utter, thuggish mendacity and sheer, vicious nastiness anything I have seen in Federal Parliament in over fifty years of being a political junkie.
And, of course, standing behind them, pulling the strings, are

– as unholy a trinity as I have ever seen.
By contrast, the ALP has

decent people concerned about the well-being of all Australians, about equality, and about building for the future.
I will be voting Labor today. I hope sufficient of my fellow-Australians wake up before it’s too late and realise the slaughter-knives are nearly at their throats.

the scumbag should do the right thing for once in his miserable life. resign. in the name of God, GO.
Don’t bother going over the road: a mixture of (1) triumphalism, (2) denialism, and (3) genuine grief and anger.
Stirring speech from the Ruddster… and he bows out.
Any chance of Julia regaining the Labor leadership and make life really, really difficult for Abbott? *dreaming*
Batman’s a bit interesting. The primaries are ALP: 43.4, Greens 25.5, Libs 21.6. If the Libs had preferenced the greens they might have ended up winning.
Sinodinos….you’d think the prick was a political guru after one term!….still wet behind the ears!
Changed my mind & watched it. He’s certainly got an ego & a half. I reckon Steven Smith nailed it in an even handed and sensible manner. he’s no different to most of us. He has faults, but he also left office with considerable achievements to his credit.
nick champion speaking to vollies. said electorate that electorate sent message about carbon price without consent boats and something else i did not catch.
Had a go with the Senate calculator for the ACT. Z wins the second seat, but not by much.
Here he is…the walking talking shit-bowl!
Also decided that I can’t resist watching the rabbitt. Smug bastard.
jaycee
I think Arthur was “Howard’s brain” . When Howard started making electoral blunders/missteps it was no coincidence that they started when Sinodinos left Howard’s office.
Yeesh, SA’s senate count is really weird. With Xenophon’s massive vote of 25.8% so far it looks like it might be as follows:
Liberal – 2
Labor – 1
Xenophon – 1
Greens – 1
Family First – 1
oooooo….Rupert will be pissed…no credit to him!
Poor Johnny Howard. Standing there thinking, “that should be me there claiming my seventh term and beating Menzies”.
jaycee,
You’ve gone a bit quiet now your hero Abbott is on the podium! Why is that?
Now he’s lying like a pig in shit!
ch7 was filming it so is public speech.
It’s Abbott’s baby now, lets see how he goes.
Wait, there’s something missing…the ah-ahs!….and the wife!
abbott on screen. sound turned down. bastard.
The third daughter is there in the bleachers ready for the kisses & cuddles.
Here it is, GL

It was really just a cheap stunt to continue the ‘ Gillard doomed’ theme.
No place (on the dias) for women!
librats are slimy toads.
something else that’s interesting there been an 8.7% swing to Labor in Fowler.
jaycee
She’s a kiwi and so has some standards 😉
His wife and girls come onto the stage and he pisses off into the happy-clappers!…wow!…what a man!
Class from former PMJG tonight with a tweet recognizing the work of Kevin, Albo etc.
Rudd led the labor party to its lowest primary vote in many years and by his actions over the last three years there is now a legitimate danger that all the hard work of the past three plus years will be for nothing and all the policy achievements of a good labor government will be lost .
Worst of all his actions have resulted in a man such as Tony Abbott now becoming PM of Australia.
Those are the “great ” achievements of Rudd.
A pox on Rudd, a pox on his cardinals and a pox on those in the wider labor movement who encouraged and supported his actions.
O’Connor looks like it’ll stay with the WA Nationals. Not that it makes a difference, but eh, there you go, Newspoll thought wrong with the exit polls.
here are the wimmin in white cheer squad.
It’s all gone now….we slip slowly into the night….
my booth in Melbourne Ports had 1800 voters, the raw counts for the Sanate follow
Above the line in Senate
400 Lib
406 Labor
340 Grn
147 ungrouped
below the line first preference
green 35
labor 17
liberal 2
So, 55 – 91?
No Diaz in Greenway!
Leigh and Brodtmann both back with tiny swings against.
Bloody Zzzz just pipped Shake It. Bastard!
Any other good stuff tonight?
Kevvie leaving Parl?
Ye gods, the next Senate looks like it will be insane. Palmer might win another seat in Tasmania.
on glass 5 of reisling. have not said one word out of place. dont daresay one word becausea torrent would follow. must be nice. MUST BE NICE.
So much to look forward to –
Peta’s drink driving court appearance.
More Ashbygate reports revealing the extent of Pyne and Abbott’s involvement.
Slipper/Ashby appeal finally going to court.
Craig Thomson back in in court.
Abbott/Ettridge back in court.
Who will bring on the first by-election of the Abbott government.
Will it be Mal Brough?
Never before has a political party won government with so many scandals hanging over it. The next six months might be quite entertaining.
{ A pox on Rudd, a pox on his cardinals and a pox on those in the wider labor movement who encouraged and supported his actions. }
I have seen dozens of Labor election defeats at both State & Federal level. Never, have I seen such venom directed to those who are considered to be the architects of that defeat when there are always multiple contributing factors and personalities that have a bearing on each defeat.
Maybe it was never possible for Labor to win this one with the powers that were arraigned against it. This is a victory for Rupert Murdoch, not so much as a loss for Kevin Rudd. In the postmortem, it will be pretty clear that it could have been a somewhat worse defeat.
People are entitled to their opinions as biased or wrong as they might be, but give the rest of us a break. We didn’t do anything wrong. Don’t throw your venom in our faces.
Go out into your backyards & howl it to the moon or something.
Sad about Yvette and Deb. The rest, I don’t really care. Plenty to work with in the new Opposition.
I’m “happy” with this result. Now, if only the Senate can behave!
Well, for interstaters in the AFL it was good new at least. Fremantle beat Geelong this afternoon, and then Port Adelaide beat Collingwood tonight. Port are the enemy to me as a North adelaide and Crow supporter, same as BK. But like him, I was for once cheering for them. They have some great youngsters and Ken Hinkley has done a good job with them.
Spent the evening watching 4 eps of Pie in the Sky . Now about 20 years ago. Good value.
Some good news. Labor’s back in front in Reid.
Port had Pies for dinner? Terrific!
C’mon Cathy McGowan!
scorpio,
Just my opinion.
Worth no less or no more than anyone else.
Cheers.
Scorps,
Still some good stuff left in Labor.
Biggest damage in Victoria and Tasmania.
{ Wait, there’s something mising…the ah-ahs!….and the wife! }
Yeah, but he doesn’t need them anymore. He’s got the prize, they have served their purpose and now have to slink back into the shadows where they belong.
