Saw some of Ms Crabb on her cooking show. Lady MP cooking up a nice lamb roast and it turns out Annabelle is a vegetarian. Good thing Heff was there to do it justice.
Hi all been in hyberation for some time,
“Prof Kerryn Phelps @drkerrynp

C@tmomma, where is Politics in the Pub held these days? Back in the day I was a regular at the Thurless Castle (Cleveland St) for Sunday politics in the pub.
Leone,
Thank you for Barry Everingham’s article.
According to family history, my grandfather arrived home one day and asked, “Del, how would you like to become Lady T?”
Askin had offered him a knighthood – at a price of $10 grand. It was in the early days of his premiership.
Oddly, my grandmother did not want to become Lady T, so they saved their money instead.
Bob Update
We just had to force feed him, because he still won’t take sustenance voluntarily. In fact he seems to be revolted by food (which probably means he’s nauseous).
First course: 15ccs of NutriPet (thanks Leone2).
The vet offered to get some in, but they take so long to process orders the dog would have been long gone before their over-priced supplier had delivered it. Got it from Pet Barn instead (thanks again Leone2). $23.
The lady at the counter asked me what was wrong with my dog. I told her maybe a stroke, maybe a brain tumour (the vet’s preferred diagnosis, by the way). She looked concerned, and asked if he was dizzy etc. etc. “Yes, I know, Canine Vestibular Syndrome” I replied. She was relieved I’d heard of it because her vet was ready to put her dog down when he had the same symptoms, but instead of being a 5.5kilo Aussie Terrier, he’s a 20 kilo Boxer. She went 9 days spoon feeding him this gunk. And he’s fit and well again now.
Sure, I tasted some (only fair to suffer the same experience as Bob, and in two weeks I will be 60, so will be eating more dog food, apparently).I put about a pinhead’s worth on my finger and licked it up. Two hours later, I’ve still got the taste in my mouth. Sort of sweet, aniseedy, metallic… won’t go away. They say (on the label) it’s “palatable”. Dogs eat it “eagerly”. Christ, you have to worry about some dogs.
All this time Cozzie is sitting next to us wondering whether Bob’s going to eat all his NutriPet. If not, there’s another dog who can finish it off… fool… works for chicken, but not for Dog Gunk..
Second course: 15ccs of Pecks “Chicken & Ham” paste
Basically to wash away the taste of the NutriPet. And yes,I tasted that too.
Cozzie looks even more interested in the Chicken & Ham. He starts growling under his breath.
Third course: 20ccs of delicious Chicken broth, mixed with some pureed vegetables and flavoured with Vegeta vegetable stock.
I can eat Vegeta stock with a spoon. No animals died to make i,t and it tastes delicious.
Did youse know the Japanese have a fourth taste sensation besides Sweet, Sour and Savoury? It’s “Deliciousness”, applied to anything containing MSG, particularly tomatoes, which were only introduced to Japan in the last century. Vegeta has “Deliciousness” in spades.
Anyway, I thought that something a bit salty, chickeny and flavoursome would overwhelm the NutriPet. Bob’s asleep now, went to sleep immediately, so hopefully it might work.
Hopefully he wakes up.
Hopefully he doesn’t throw it up. If he does it’s all been for naught. It’s his first “square” meal since Monday.
He didn’t take too kindly to the Invasion Of The Syringe People, but the vet told me I had 24 hours to get him fed or else his organs would start to shut down. 72 hours further on, and it might be irreversible.
That spurred me on, no risk.
Cozzie starts whimpering with jealousy. “I’m a person too. Feed ME!” he seems to be saying. So I give him Bob’s boiled chicken. Dog heaven.
Annabel Crabb is a cautionary example of the basic rule: If you’re not funny, don’t make jokes.
Annabel IS a shocker, isn’t she?
BB,
Fingers very tightly crossed (except when typing).
How Liberals sleep at night is beyond me.
NormanK,
Chillingly brilliant!
NormanK,
AAA.

At TAFE I go all day without hearing about Abbott or Rudd, and it is great.
I am glad Bob is still holding his own.
I was told getting some pearl barley and making some barely water is good to give to sick dogs too.
Duckster, C&D was good!
Gawd NormanK. I can smell the stinking smoke.
Time for Beyond 2000 or whatever they call it now.
Bushfire, if devotion heals Bob’s sure to get better, your love and devotion are inspiring.
Augustus – sorry to hear of your condition, I agree with about Hockey
You missed a taste: Bitter, which the LNP have in spades. 😉

Tobacco Money: Can Cause Loss Of Political Will
Opposition Leader Tony Abbott’s uncomfortable dissembling over the past day or so on the subject of tobacco taxation has been absolutely priceless to see.
Or maybe it’s not priceless. The Labor Party suggests Abbott’s discomfort carries a price tag of $3 million, that being the total amount the tobacco industry has donated to the Liberal and National Parties since 1998.
But this is a very rubbery figure, as we shall shortly see.
Another excellent Catalyst: oceanography, the right bacteria are so good for you, and synthetic music.

Note, this mag is made up of US conservatives (small c) against the neo-cons and much the direction of the recent Republican party. Don’t agree with a lot of their stuff but its often worth a browse. A way of getting a “right” view that can actually be reasonable.
Maybe not …

Jaeger,
GMH may have to sing a different tune after the election.
http://www.sunshinecoastdaily.com.au/news/union-rally-kawana-over-university-hospital-privat/1967744/
I am very angry about GMH. I have driven past the Holden’s factory in Elizabeth countless times over the years, and the allied industries that feed it. For them to try to freeze workers pay for three years and ask for ‘flexibility’ in conditions PLUS another 1/4 bill$ to stay open is imo extortion of in area where employment is greatly needed.
However…there are a lot of industrial developments going up in the backblocks of the Elizabeth/Salisbury area. I do not know waht they are but big buildings are being built with new roadways leading to the industrial parks springing up out there. Holdens may not be the only player on the block.
All this is probably to take advantage of the fantastic expressway built to take heavy and other transport to the Port docks without going through the northern suburbs.
http://www.northernexpressway.sa.gov.au/
And it was funded as part of the Economic Stimulus Plan.
”
The Northern Expressway project is a joint initiative by the Australian and South Australian governments under the Australian Government’s Land Transport Investment Program. It is the largest road construction project in the state since the 1960s.

Looks like another rigged election in Zimbabwe, probably to no one’s surprise.

Take the animated drive. I have done the real thing and I wish I had a damn fast car and no speed limits!!!
AND IT IS NOT A TOLL ROAD.
Worst decision ever!
Cricinfo agrees with you.
They are also building this in Adelaide.
That was one appalling umpire decision.
I is off to bed: PBX lunch tomorrow.
Ducky and BK – and maybe some others (?),
Have a wonderful time, and don’t do anything moi wouldn’t do 😉
Goodnight duckie.
Have a glass for me tomorrow at the PBX lunch.
I hope you had your tongue-in-cheek when you typed that, BB.
Actually, Mr SmartyPants Bushfire Bill, I had a car accident about 10 years ago and gave up driving after it. My husband drove me everywhere I needed to go after that. When he passed away I had no alternative but to get my Drivers Licence again, because, well, the kids were too young but we all needed a designated driver. Therefore there was no alternative but that it had to be me. So I started Driving Lessons again at 50 years old. I passed my test, luckily, because if I didn’t I don’t think I could have coped with coming back and doing it again and again until I got it. Bag of nerves that I would have talked myself into becoming.
Driving is still a bit of a problem for me, actually, because once you’ve had a bad accident, it can come back to haunt you at the most inopportune times when you are driving, and your confidence just drains away all of a sudden. Though I am getting better at banishing those feelings, should they arise.
And, wrong again. I am not a Rudd Supporter. Thanks for asking! I am a Julia Gillard’s Legacy Supporter and a realist.
Now I’m off to bed because I’m tired and grumpy. 🙂
I doubt it.

While the so called “political class” keeps talking about issues that have either been neutralised in terms of their negative electoral impact or up for speculation, the government is shifting the agenda to something people actually care about in their lives: health.
The way the government has gone about doing this is by increasing the tobacco excise by 60% ($5.3 Billion) over the next four years.
If we look at Essential Media Communications polling from July 23 2013, we can see how important voters consider health as an election issue.

Watchdog ACMA welcomes call for the power to enforce broadcaster’s on-air corrections
Media watchdog the Australian Communications and Media Authority has welcomed a parliamentary report that says the organisation should be given the power to force on-air corrections.
Chris Chapman, the ACMA chairman, told Encore he believes recommendations handed down by the Joint Select Committee on Broadcasting Legislation are “sensible and logical”.
The recommendation was made last month but went virtually unnoticed as it came out during the Labor leadership spill.
Goodnight, everyone.
May we all wake happier (and happily) tomorrow.
There are things to see and people to do
👿
Which reminds me. How stupid is Mr Obeid to say this?
“We will pursue this through every court of the land to prove that we’re innocent.”
I cannot think of all that many Australian courts where he would have standing to sue.
Good morning Dawn Patrollers.
Now for ICAC Chapter 2.
