  1. OK, not emails to the gov’t then. Not like I did to the ALP gov’t. But after what they did to Slipper and Thomson and tried to do to PMJG, who is surprised at what they would do.

  2. Australia is becoming an ugly place. Thanks to Howard and Dial Up.

I think the government was surprised by the antics on Wednesday morning. They didn’t expect Labor to mimic their own actions, ask for divisions on every vote, dissent from a decision by the speaker and generally behave exactly as the now government did in opposition. going by Abbott’s silliness in making an appointment with an Indonesian VIP for early in the day the government expected Labor to sit there meekly, agree to everything and not say a word.

I hope Tony Burke has a lot more planned. He and Bill Shorten seem to have a much better understanding of parliamentary procedure and standing orders than does Madame Kero. She might soon regret taking on the job of Speaker.

I hope the ALP go for it. Someone here or on PB said a few weeks ago that the conservatives have made a big mistake because they have made progressives very angry and they will now fight back.

    I think that pubster/bludger was very insightful/

  5. Who ever said that the AFP weren’t in the pocket of the Liberal Party. Howard bought Keelty with a lovely injection of an additional $800M or so to the AFP.

Keelty was owned from then on. Surely people don’t need reminding.

The current bod seems to sit on his hands whenever a Liberal linked investigation comes his way.

I’m just hoping that a Fitzgerald type inquiry looks into this mob in the near future. Our democracy is emperiled whilst there is absolutely no oversight or monitoring of this mob.

Wonder how long it will take for my phone to ring. Go for it fellas. You’ll get yours eventually.

  6. AUSTRALIA has won its third “fossil of the day” award at the UN climate talks in Warsaw, as international environment groups attempt to embarrass the Abbott government on the world stage over its decision to scrap the carbon tax

From world leader to world leading absolute embarrassment in just a couple of months! Well done eh!

It’s a reasonable request, really. I think what they are trying to hide are the effects of their post-election announcements.

  10. I must say, that like Puff, my paranoia clicked in briefly when Scorps’ phone went down and he disappeared just after complaining about the compromising of the AFP. They’re watching us!

Then I realised it was probably only country Queensland copper wire or whatever. But after what happened to David Lewis, we have been warned. To use a fridge magnet warning from some time back:
    Be alert, but not alarmed.

  11. During Morrison’s briefing yesterday a journalist’s phone rang. The ringtone? Fleetwood Mac’s
    ‘Little Lies’.

Whoever organised that stunt deserves a gold echidna with star and bar.

  12. Yes Joe. But Bradman’s figures are so, so far from the extremes of others it’s really no contest.

  13. Puff
    And ptches not covered.
    And bats not scientifically designed.
    And no helmets.
    And only rudimentary protective gear.
    And minimal fielding restrictions.
And no rules against intimidatory and excessively defensive bowling.

Yes, The Don was pretty good.

  14. Puff

I neglected to add that in Bradman’s days fast bowlers could drag their trailing foot well down the track before releasing the ball with the effect of reducing the length of the pitch.

  15. Defence brass were concerned the military could appear politicised through Lieutenant-General Angus Campbell’s appearances at the heated weekly border protection briefings held by the government, it is understood.

Fairfax Media believes that General Campbell, who heads the Abbott government’s Operation Sovereign Borders regime to stop asylum-seeker boat arrivals, was uncomfortable with his role in the briefings.

GrainCorp shares fell 46¢ to close at $11.73, after hitting a low of $11.41.”

  17. Good morning all. So old Dial Tone (I do like that one) supports those who shield paedophiles, supports those who shield torturers and is oblivious to basic human decency.

If not linked already here is the story of the two journos who arrived on Xmas Island in September.

    http://www.nytimes.com/2013/11/17/magazine/the-impossible-refugee-boat-lift-to-christmas-island.html?partner=socialflow&smid=tw-nytmag&_r=1&

Have a good day all. It is now less than 3 years to go until the Abbott regime will be booted.

  18. halloweenjack1
You just beat me to it, I was about to post that link.

I’m hoping it will be a lot less than three years until we can boot this lousy government.

  19. An absolute corker of an article.

Two journalists – a writer and a photographer – pretend to be Georgian political activists fleeing for their lives, pay a people smuggler and live the dangerous life – police, bribes, boredom, shady characters (very shady) high seas, rescue, Christmas Island, despair, and unlimited, irrational hope – on their journey to Australia.

Meanwhie,Peter Hartcher and his pals sit in their offices waiting for the phone to ring. You never know who’s on leaking duty today. From their comfort zone they can dispense advice to Tony Abbott (how to turn shameless rorting into a political triumph), Gillard – and now Rudd – slagging, gratuitous insults and plonking opinionation all they like.

Meanwhile two real journalists risk their lives to not only get the story, but to do it brilliantly.

SMH? The Australian? The Age? The Daily Telegraph? Nah… The New York Times.

Australian journalists ask “Why do journalism?” when all they have to make sure of is that the drip feed remains functional, and whinge when they are not spoon fed at Morrison pressers.

Proper journalists just just go and get the story.

  21. Too late Julia Baird.

I can remember you on The Drum, plonkingly joining in the hilarity against Julia Gillard. Fat arse, wearing glasses, speculation about the Rudd Chimera… all the usual “journo savvy” sniggering.

ANOTHER fine mess you – and your fellow hacks – have gotten us into. And now you want to be all “concerned” in your new incarnation as an NYT scribe?

    Shove it.

  22. BB
Yep. And Ms Baird is more or less sticking up for Abbott in her article. He really, truly believes in the science of climate change, he really does, but he had to win an election, so…….

Ms Baird, daughter of former Liberal politician Bruce Baird, learnt all about the need to say whatever would win an election at daddy’s knee.

I hope those jelly fish get right inside Ms Baird’s wetsuit during her next ‘swimming group’ dip, I hope they find somewhere excruciatingly painful to sting her.

    TAFE campus to close
    November 15, 2013 – 6:07PM
    Clay Lucas
    Workplace Editor for The Age

A TAFE campus in outer Melbourne that offers courses to vulnerable teenagers will shut. Its managers cite state government funding cuts as the reason.

The William Angliss Institute will close its Cranbourne campus next month.

The campus, which has operated for more than a decade, employs fewer than 10 staff and provides classes for about 40 students.

It runs youth and community programs, working with “at risk” youth in conjunction with high schools, particularly to provide hospitality training for teenagers who might otherwise drop out of school.

The classes will instead be offered at William Angliss’s city campus.
