“Don’t you have to be an Australian citizen to be GG?”
That would just be a tick of a box for Tony, Slav g.
He’d probably make him a 3 star GG
I have been tied up with other matters this week and missed the whole 2/3 stars General thing. Something to do with the person appointed to ‘turn back the boats’?

Funny that, my eldest, on the day we brought his brother home, said ‘No nappy, mum, no nappy’ when I was settling him in for his afternoon nap. Didn’t have a wet bed after that. Thank heavens, as in those days (oops, here I go, ‘back in my day’) we only used cloth nappies, so it was with much relief that I only had new bubs nappies to look after.
Thanks, kaffe, for the link to Weary Dunlop. You do will to treasure that signed book. True nobility, I think, occurs when you can combine greatness with humility, which Weary seemed to.
And thanks, too, to gigilene for the raising of our spirits with the song of The Black Eagle.
On board a Manx Norton at Silverstone….
Dear of dear, I have been watching & listening to the news on & off today & it appears Tones Stage 1 Destruction of the Environment by axing any department with “climate” in it’s name is getting waved through by the majority of the OM.
I encounter this kind of short term thinking quite regularly in my field of work. I try to sell buildings to clients using a number of energy/resource saving devices, not just roof insulation but extending to building fabric, solar & power conserving technology. Apart from the passive systems these mostly involve a moderately higher upfront cost, the benefit being long term savings & better environmental outcomes. Too often they are the first things to be taken out as the client looks for possible savings, the builder’s generally don’t care either way & the overall aesthetic is more or less retained with the loss of function only apparent over time. The inclination to dump sustainability is more pronounced in developments that are to be sold on & not occupied by the client.
Abbott is creating a short sighted government with the concentration on maximising immediate cost savings at the risk of more expense down the track. He has at most factored in a 2 term Coalition government so how much damage can they do to the climate in that short period of time before the next election, probably not much that anyone will notice. Bugger the long term impacts, that’s someone else’s problem
CK thanks for those numbers!!!
Late back from Sydney where I was attending the funeral of my last surviving (but surviving no longer) aunt. She was a few days short of her 93rd birthday. A piano teacher and quite a superior player in her day, she had lost her jest for living and was quite ready to shuffle off her mortal coil.
As I’m quite late and too tired to check where the numbers have gone, could I have any three numbers, Mr Raffle Man aka CK.
Now, I’ll check the message that have rolled into the Pub during the day.
Home at last – traffic was hell in the rain and I suddenly remembered I had to collect some mail for a friend, so major detour (eventually) through two gridlocked intersections. I will be attending to the drinks orders as soon as I’ve finished the

At the time there was a tv program on Weary. On it pom , scots and Aussie ex POW’s told stories of how he literally stood between them and execution by the Japanese not once but several times, resulting in him being slated for execution more than once and suffering beatings numerous times , made me realise how truly great he was. Courage when you have some means to fight back is one thing but such bravery when utterly powerless in the face of total power over life and death takes bravery to a whole new level.

As a first time poster and avid reader of this blog, I have now finally summoned the courage to write my first comment. What brought the end of my passivity to the fore? Aguirre’s commentary about Walid Ali’s nauseating, nonsensical arguement about women finally did it for me. I had to read Mr Ali’s piece a few times because I couldn’t see the point of it, other than a propaganda piece for the Libs. Then I read Aguirre’s comment and I could not have articulated it better myself or honed in the key points of his article. Aguirre, I may not summon the courage again anytime soon but I could not let it pass without congratulating you on your beautifully written comment and let you know you have a fan.

Franny,
Welcome to The Pub – it’s lovely to see you here. Stay around for a while, and you will find like many others that having dipped your toe in the water you will start making waves.
Your first drink is on the house: what would you like?

Great vid, love the sound of those old engines. Notice how the rider makes up ground in the twisty’s but those super bikes just blow you of on the straights. A friend of mine has a Ducatti 750SS green frame replica. I did a few laps of Eastern Creek on it, pure bliss.

Welcome Franny. You choose well in admiring Aguirre. He shows such much wisdom in his analysis.
Hi Franny
Thank you for the welcome. I am rather partial to a drop of red. At the moment my favourite is Hannah’s Hill Shiraz by Hartley Estate. Cheers.
Franny welcome.
CK thanks for the draw, one day………………
Franny,
Something like this?
Franny
Welcome to the pub and keep on posting.
CK Watt,
Moi dips me lid.
Welcome Franny,
I am enjoying a glass of 3 Tales Sauvignon Blanc from NZ. My Mum won a half dozen in the Hospital Lottery. It is nice refreshing drop.
Other Pubkateers know that this is a biggie. My Mum is a teetotaller and usually forbids alcohol in the house. I nearly fell over when she offered me a bottle of wine and invited me to pour myself a glass.
Now maybe I can stop slipping the vodka into my orange juice. 😆
No joy in politics at present, so a little digression to Tim and Debbie explaining the Politics of Time
Fiona, Wow! How did you do that? In your honour and in celebration of my new found PUB friends, I will happily open a bottle.
Re: Hartley Estate, interesting silhouette – Fan-tailed Cuckoo?
Just a quick drop in, no time for a drink tonight.
You all know why Tony Abbot has taken to wearing R M Williams boots, don’t you. It’s for the same reason my #2 son wore them to pre-school. He has not yet mastered the art of shoe-lace tying and Peta got sick of doing it for him.
Fiona
Ta muchly superb as usual
Fanny
Welcome. Please keep posting.
I meant Franny.
One day iIll learn how to type properly. Maybe when I grow up…..
Franny,
A combination of image searching, cutting and pasting and uploading the resulting jpg to The Pub’s library, then applying Bushfire Bill’s patent html code to publish it.
Round this joint we call it wooffle dust 🙂
Leonetwo
We know, it is read what I mean not what I type.
Brian,
My sympathy. It is always sad to see the last of a generation pass, but she sounds as though she lived a rich life.
Now, time for a little glass of something for you:
And, Fiona is the queen of whooffle. lol
I am teetotal like Puffy’s Mum so I think the fumes are getting to me. hehe
