Things are looking good atm for us the good guys.
But still a few years to go so lets not be complacent.
Abbott is a grub and a liar

So a one term Tony /Lnp Govt. is a distinct possibility.

The winner of the raffle will be a Sat lotto Ticket till I can return full-time.
Our doggie mascots just because. ( Cant Find One of Cossie BB. Sorry)
As always enjoy the place.

There are occasions when I want to be as nasty about Mr Abbott and his style/side of politics as he and his are about me or mine. The trouble is, I don’t want to descend to his level of bullshit.
My dilemma is that I fear I may have to … and that does not bode well for any body because Mr Abbott’s side of politics is more practised at being outright ‘nasty persons’ who are more familiar with finding sneaky underhand ways of fighting for what they lust after.
So yes, Mr Abbott deserves to be treated fairly in all matters which deal with facts, such as his lack of inches, but otherwise treated the better than he treats the rest of his employers (and I don’t mean the IPA or Murdoch) i.e. have verifiable facts repeated at him, rather then the inventive brain farts he currently inflicts on us.
Curioz,
That’s a pretty good (and fair) summary, and I will try to abide by it. Until the going gets rough, of course 😉
Was having a conversation with “Jason” and “TT” (Talk Turkey) from over at The Political Sword, about the sad, disastrous loss of Julia Gillard from Labor politics…and I have to confess to having a lingering disgust and seething hatred for certain members of the current Labor oppn’ (You know who they are!) for what they did to a bloody good Parliamentary Party….we were agreed that it was touch and go as too whether we could continue to support those same members in an election…but I have been giving it some thought and I am coming to the constructive conclusion that Julia Gillard, like Gough Whitlam and because of the circumstances of HER dismissal, perhaps even more so than even Gough, she could serve as a guiding beacon to a type of Labor leadership needed for the twenty-first century.
That Australia needed a woman leader for at least two terms is amply demonstrated by the sheer, vulgar sexist behaviour that exists in both the Parliament and civillan life of this nation. That, if one can read the nature of the personality of a person through their facial expressions, then in Julia Gillard as against a plethora of plug-ugly LNP. and some treacherous Labor people, we had a clear, open, honest intent of a person….Oh no..we are not gullible, we on the progressive side of politics…we are aware of “Gillard-the-politician”…just as we were aware of Whitlam and Keating the politicians…we know the negotiations needed…we know the back-room twists and tangles..but we also expect those “deals” done for political expediency will be negotiated fairly, cleanly and in the best interests of the majority…that’s the majority of Australians, not just Labor people, but the nation…and Julia Gillard, with Labor’s NDIS, the NBN, Gonski and the Carbon Trading Scheme and a host of others were for the best interests of ALL Australians.
So yes…I am angry…I am sad beyond words for the lost opportunities of the Gillard ministry….but I live for tomorrow…Gillard is still there, working for the best interests of the nation…like the heritage of Whitlam and Keating…Shorten has huge shoes to fill…but he has an advantage, those Labor warriors paved the way, through determined example and hard trading and courageous perseverance against the odds…it wasn’t an easy path for any of them..they had to fight and fight and fight…against not only the “concrete ideas” of their own party, but even more against the bastardry of the Liberal / National Party vested interests…the same “self – entitled” bastards that are in temporary residence of the govt’ benches now!….and a less deserving stumble of phonies and grubs never have there been!….So I am coming around to accepting that there is more than enough reason to hope for a progressive resolution to the LNP. problem…Labor has the programs, Labor has the people, Labor has the honest intent in their backers at the polls and Labor most of all has the “Hall of Heroes” to set the precedence for a damn better place for Australia in the twenty-first century.
Three Cheers for Julia Gillard ! ! !…a most worthy leader, if not now in person…then by hell and high water….by bloody good example……So : into ’em Bill Shorten…and make YOUR mark !
I made this dress in 1975, with a cotton purchased in Thailand in 1974 – black with huge shocking pink flowers. It wasn’t particularly difficult, apart from the lambs’ wool interfacing for the colllar and around the front slit.
For those not particularly up in fashion, it’s an exquisite Dior design – and back then I was more than svelte enough to wear it …
Jaycee,
Attaboy, hear hear, and so say all of us!
Blimey, you gotta have some serious doubts about the intelligence of “some” South Australian voters by electing “this” dangerous ex-Liberal ratbag!

Bob Day of “Homestead Homes”….speculator / builder….do some digging on him for your own interest!
I’m starting to think that it wouldn’t be a bad thing if I was.
Even on a bad day, I think I could be somewhat of an improvement on the incumbent! 😉
Jaycee,
Well said brother! I wouldn’t have minded if some of those who supported Rudd were better than the incumbents they replaced, But Fitzgibbon, Kim Carr, Bowen for example they might have what it takes for “factional politics” But compared to the talent that resigned at the last election Combet Smith Garrett and Emmerson we’ve been short changed.
bille11 – Thanks. X-fingers I’ll be discharged tomorrow.
Got to get up early to take number 2 daughter to the airport, so off to hit the sack.
Poor lass has to work her butt off to pay back her HECS bill for a 4 year Bachelor of Science Degree followed by a first class honours in an Honours Degree in Science.
Funny how nobody coughed up with the readies and offered to pay for “her” studies which will be of far more benefit to the average Australian than that of Abbott’s little darling!
Yes, Jason…indeed we have…but I am not going to start a fight over it anymore….knowledge of history tell me that Nemesis will catch up to those “players”…I am looking to see Julia Gillard being seen as a fine example of qualities of leadership to give guide to future leaders of the party…..we now have a government to win!
Given that with the departure of Don Farrell from the Senate and the Shadow Ministry in July, would it be too much of a political risk to send some of these clowns to the back bench. Bowen especially, his performance as shadow treasurer has been completely lacklustre.
CTar1,
Blimey, eh! So they have had enough of you already! 👿
Good one buddy. Looks like things are going ok for you!

I’m sure they’ll miss me as I’m practically running the hospital in between cigarette breaks. 😀
Don’t be overly optimistic. Unfortunately the Senate will be ‘richer’ by another dinosaur in Joe Bullock. Sorry about that!
curioz
I forgot about Joe Bullock
Please, everybody…I was on an optimistic high…do you have to mention the Bullock??…now I’m depressed again!!
on that note..goodnight.
I sold my old FJ45 Toyota Landcruiser ute today to a mate of my son. It has mostly sat in the driveway unless someone borrowed it. The only time I tried to drive it in the city I was terrified I would squash some tiny car.
It is a bit like this one but with more surface rust.
Sorry folks, I do not feel good that Mr Bullock was slotted in ahead of Ms Pratt. Going on the individual below the line vote, I suspect it is possibly the first time that the second place on the ticket (Pratt=5390) received more First Preferences than the person who was eventually elected (Bullock=3982). I know that I was told by many voters on the day that they would be voting below the line just so that they could put him as #77!
I recently attended a “Shaping Labor” forum here in WA and Mr Bullock turned up. I was impressed in that he turned up, but agreed with another participant that it was probably to ensure that any ideas newer than the Neolithic would be discouraged from thriving.
And that leaves me in the invidious position that I want the Labor Party to develop new policies of inclusive membership that reflect today’s ideals, without totally discarding what has gone before. But with the difficulty in reconciling what I want, with what I know of the positions of Mr Bullock and how it grates with many who might otherwise be supportive of Labour policies.
How to make Mr Bullock actually conform more to what a modern Labor Party needs in a representative in comparison to his alleged archaic positions, I have no idea. I suppose writing ‘dead tree missals’ might be more likely to get his attention?
About a personality like that you describe of Mr Bullock. The older he gets the harder he will be to change, unless some grandkids or great-grankids drag him into the 21st c. Why would he change what has worked for him in the past?
jaycee, thank you for telling us about your chat with Talk Turkey over at TPS and sharing your feelings about PM Julia Gillard.
I’ve just been visiting my own LAST POST FOR PM JULIA GILLARD over at polliepomes and then reading this by Paul Howes of all people from the Daily Telegraph of all papers!. Like Talk Turkey, myself and many, many others I think he was more than a little in love with FPMJG.

Damn right, Leunig!
Ha Ha!…Eric Abetz…the chicken farmer….repost needed!…:
This is a anecdote told to my mother years ago, when she worked as a cleaner for different people. One was a retired bank manager, who was occasionally called back to serve as a “locum” in different country towns when the local manager wanted or “needed” a holiday…He heard it from the Lutheran Pastor of the district. Some may doubt the possibility of such peasant behaviour…but believe you me…it is as true as the day is long!….ask CTar1 about peasants in Europe..he’ll tell you.
Proverb…: “A madman knows more in his own house than a wise man in sombody elses.”
Parable..: Johan and Marie Schultz were chicken farmers. Johan and Marie were simple folk who lived in the back-blocks of the mallee about ten miles from the nearest town centre. They were devout Lutherans, so that when the new Pastor visited their house, he was shocked to see that all their nine children slept in the same long room out the back of the house…girls and boys together. He broached Johan on the delicate subject of possible immorality of boys and girls (“some even of adolescent years”) sleeping together in the same room!
“Don’t you see, Johan, if you divide the room…here…you can put the boys one end and the girls the other.” the Pastor smiled weakly, his hands rolling over eachother.
Johan scratched the back of his head and winced at the thought of extra work.
“You think so?” he asked.
“I know so”…the pastor slapped him on the shoulder in friendship.
A few weeks later, at Sunday church, the pastor inquired of Johan about the dividing of the childrens room.
“Ya!…I haf done the job Pastor….I had some chicken wire und I used that.”
“Chicken wire? !” the Pastor exclaimed and he suddenly realised he was up against a slow understanding soul..”Oh, but..Mr. Shultz..Johan..I do feel that you need to close the room of with something less..less..transparent…you know…why with that there is no privacy at all !”
“Pri-va-cy??” Johan queried….he scratched the back of his head and thought on it some more.
The next week he walked into the Pastors rectory and with his beret crushed in his big peasant’s paws, he announced..
“Pastor…I haf come to say the wall she is fixed”.
“Ahh!..splendid, splendid Johan…er..what did you line it with?” the pastor asked eagerly.
“Chaff bags!..Marie, she sews some chaff bags together and we hang them up!”
“But..but, Johan..hessian!…don’t you think..I mean, isn’t hessian a little bit…frail to put up on the wall?”
“Ah ha!”..Johan winked and waved his index finger from side to side “I thought of that Pastor, I thought of that…so I hung the hessian on the girls side..they will be more careful of it than the boys!” and he puffed his chest out triumphantly.
Delightful, Jaycee.
Patriciawa…I just visited your page on the web…and yes…I agree very much with your sadness and feeling of loss….as do we all…but loss may not be the correct word, for Julia Gillard still works for the principles she stood, as we have seen of her appointments of late…she still resides locally and her partner, Tim, is not shy about “mixing it” with the clowns in the govt’ side……so while we may still grieve on the blatant injustice and harbour an ache of sadness for the empty place in our parliament….I am holding that sadness in my heart NOT as a heart-breaking sadness, but as a beautiful sadness…..a beautiful reality of a beautiful and (still) inspiring Prime Minister.
Amanda Vanstone – received a free uni education thanks to the taxpayers of Australia and Gough Whitlam, now thinks everyone should pay more for their degrees.
I was reminded of something Wayne Swan said in 2003. Vanstone was Howard’s Community Services minister and wanted to push disabled kids off carers allowance. Kids with Down Syndrome, cerebral palsy and other serious problems were, according to Vanstone, not disabled enough to need that financial help.
Swannie’s words were –
http://www.abc.net.au/news/2003-08-03/families-to-lose-disability-funds-labor/1458744
Vanstone is still a political hyena, crawling out of her lair every so often to snarl about something that has roused her.
Amanda Flintstone is just a typical tory who grabs with both hands. She is like the greedy chook in the chookhouse which chases off every other bird which tries to share in the grain scattered on the ground. She is the greedy chook that grows fat and too lazy to be a productive egg layer – on a chicken farm she would lose her head and end up the family’s roast chicken Sunday dinner.
Janice…picture this…: ” C’mon, children…eat your Amanda Vanstone…”………(Quick!!…fingers down throat!).
How nice to start the day with a victory.
My mother’s lease of the flat across the road commenced 11 February 2014, as did her power and gas accounts with Energy Provider A.
Some weeks after she moved in, she received a power bill addressed to “The Householder” from Energy Provider B.
I phoned EPB and pointed out that “The Householder” was with a different (unspecified) EP as of 11 February. EPB said, “Ignore the account.”
Another bill from EPB arrived late last week.
I phoned again, and told them that if they continued sending bills I would take the matter to the Energy Ombudsman. Many apologies – it was an automated mailing system – just ignore the account. I reiterated that if it happened again I would definitely lodge a complaint.
“I’ll check with my manager” … a minute later … “You won’t receive any more accounts – and you won’t complain to the Ombudsman?”
I said that IF we received another bill I most certainly would!
Opportunistic billing? More like outright fraud.

Your delightful story brought back some lovely memories of my grandparents. They lived in ‘the bush ‘ on a small property near the Blue Mountains. My grandfather had built their house himself, even felling trees and cutting the timber on a sawmill he had made. They didn’t have much money, so the house was very simple, just a long building one room wide. You walked through each room to get to the next one. The fibro outer walls were not lined, which made things a bit chilly in winter and the walls between the rooms were just hessian, nailed to the wooden posts that held up the roof. When I stayed there as a child I thought that was really cool, I could talk to my grandparents in the next room without having to yell. I never thought about that lack of privacy back then.
An extract from Rob Oakeshott’s book.
Rob explains why he left the National Party, very relevant to the ICAC inquireis now. Everything he says about local identities and the Obeid influence is true. I can add one more interesting scrap of information. The Obeid familiy’s Port Macquarie penthouse which you might have heard mentioned in relation to ICAC, was on the top floor of the ‘luxury hotel’ (now Rydges) you will read about here. Eddie bought it in March, 2010 for $1.25 milion, with the proceeds from his corrupt Cherrybrook deal. The Obeids sold it some time ago.
http://www.portnews.com.au/story/2305062/rob-oakeshotts-book-extract-no2/?cs=257
This makes an interesting connection to this story from Kate McClymont on the Obeid family flogging off assets. There is a mention of the landholdings in Port Macquarie, now being developed and ready for sale.

When my grandmother came to visit, she had to share our kids’ bedroom which already contained many beds. We would watch her cautiously undress her big body, down to her cotton underware, and slip her nighty over it. Then she would fall asleep and we knew that soon the room would fill with her loud and raucous snoring.

After my adventures with a bully from my former electricity provider, explained here a little while ago, my son had an interesting idea. It’s clear from my account that I am female, old(ish) and a pensioner. It would also be easy to work out that I live alone. My son thought I might have been targeted for a threatening and angry phone call because someone though old ladies would be easy to bully into staying on as a customer. I thought he might be on to something there. My former electricity provider picked the wrong little old lady to bully. I don’t think they expected a very stern email to management.
Your mum’s situation sounds like the same sort of con job. It’s good she has you there to sort things out.
