    Red Faces is from a far more slowed down time in history, way before mobile phones, internet, face book, twitter etc etc. That’s what makes the comedy fun. there is no twitter feed or whatever.

    I remember talking to the editor for Rolling Stone about the time mobile phones were becoming more affordable so more common & what he thought. His comment was very predictive “they’ll do nothing but speed our lives up”. Yep, welcome to the fast lane.

    Well, fair enough, I suppose. I can’t remember an Australian captain who would not make some sort of effort. Try to make 650 by the end of tomorrow and see what the bowlers can do.

  8. #boatbuyback is trending on (Australian region) Twitter. I cannot find any complimentary. From Tony, this is more bizarre a policy than I ever dreamed he could think up, and I use the term ‘think’ very loosely.

    Yeah, I’m getting that feeling too. The most recent comedy show that I’ve really enjoyed was Good News Week pre-2011, back before Twitter, Facebook and other social media seeped into absolutely everything.

    I didn’t really enjoy the Hamster Wheel that much, Mad as Hell even less so. That other skit show on the ABC whose name evades me I didn’t bother watching, since I heard that what passed as “comedy” on there was “be as vicious and offensive as possible to Labor politicians, especially Julia Gillard”.

  17. I was at the supermarket today and the youngster on the checkout said it was his first time voting. He said he had to vote for Labor because “Abbott is such a twat.” I gave him the thumbs up.

  20. Most Oz “comedy” programs give laughs about ten per cent of the time. It is a matter of choice whether that is enough.

    We have not yet gone to the depths of US “comedy” where, with a few honourable exceptions such as MASH, the jokester pauses after telling his joke and then repeats it.

    Such a shame that 2/3rd’s of her stuff was recorded to such crappy standard.

    I heard her sing with no amps and just a drummer and acoustic guitars once.

  40. For as long as I’ve realised that (most) given names have specific meanings, I have thought that parents should be very careful about the names they give their children.

    A few minutes ago I came across a prime example:

    I have a CD of hers. Maybe a quirky voice but she didn’t sing much out of the norm.

    I doubt it!
    At least when I named DD Felicity, I knew what the name meant, and I knew why I was bestowing it upon her.
