Well Tragics, Xmas time is over and Pb will resume tommorow.
This little blog will not disappear,it will still be here with a new post every week or so and maybe more surprises.
It will be a haven for you people that wish to have a break from the argy-bargy of pb,and just want to have a bit of a chat.
Talk about Politics, Cricket,Tennis,Wildlife,Trucks,Aviation, etc, put up a you tube link or photo, whatever.
The overriding theme will always be the political scene in Australia and especially the 2013 Federal election.
The same rules will always apply
Treat other posters how you would wish to be Treated.
spinebill4,
And, of course we all want to beat the Tories. Though to allow the likes of bemused and feeney to think they rule the roost as we go into battle, I’m not so sure.
Good morning Socrates.
You certainly didn’t miss much elsewhere
and
fiona, welcome back from North Korea.
As I said, like an old tom cat spraying all over Poll Bludger at every opportunity.
Good morning, all.
This is really exciting news: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-20898935
The sniping at William by others is also a bit silly.
I haven’t seen much of that, or maybe I missed it. What I have seen is William sniping at ‘his’ commenters. For example, within 49 minutes of his reopening Poll Bludger this morning he sniped:
Dan, in common with the rest of mankind, I have never visited your blog.
http://blogs.crikey.com.au/pollbludger/2013/01/07/happy-new-year/?comment_page=1/#comment-1513118
He rarely comments in the threads. When he does pop his head up, often as not it’s to make sarcastic or insulting remarks about commenters. Calling people stupid, idiots and whatever. These people he abuses are not just commenters, they are visitors, contributors and even financial subscribers of Crikey!
I don’t think a ‘representative’ of Crikey (which WB is, when you think about it) should go around slagging off those who go to the Crikey pages. Sure, if they deserve it, OK, but he hands out abuse even to popular, interesting and well-meaning commenters. Imagine if you owned a bar and one of the barmen made a habit of slagging off profitable patrons. It would be “kick in the bum!” time.
C@tmomma,
Believe me, I understand how you feel (and just love your spraying Tom analogy), but I agree with Spinebill. The best way to sprayproof the furniture, the carpets, and the dwellers in the house is to treat with ignore. Think toddlers. Think oxygen.
Don’t really want to get into personalities …but Bemused behaviour for a long time on PB makes it very difficult.
I stopped posting there because of what I saw (rightly or wrongly) as bullying behaviour towards my say. WB was completely unsympathetic to any attempts to deal with it.
The moderators on here dealt with his nonsense swiftly …and the discussions here have been all the better for it.
Enough of Bemused …U all (nearly all) get it so I won’t go on….
What I will say is …I cannot for the life of me understand why this cannot be a left leaning progressive blog …why the apologies/angst for supporting a good PM leading a good Govt? Heaven knows there is a plethora of R/Wing reactionary blogs + MSM to satisfy anyone with that political bent.
Why shouldn’t we be using this blog to generate support for ( and critically analyse) this Govt …and link to evidence based/progressive opinions wherever they can be found?
I would love this blog to continue if possible & would be prepared to support it financially (in a small way 🙂 ) if required.
C@tmomma
I don’t understand what feeney was on about and agree it’s a direct attack – but on the moderation? Unsustainable, IMO.
He was being ‘difficult’ on PB before Christmas, and isn’t a regular poster. I’d put him in the same mental box as those weird illogical Libs with funny names.
Personal note – I think you were a bit down over Ch/NY and perhaps are still feeling vulnerable. Deep breaths my dear. It’s not an easy time.
Mark,
Too right: and the louder and more analytic we progressives can be, the better!
psyclaw,
Gish Gallop. ‘Spurious argument from authority’. Or, as some like to use it, a spurious argument from what seems like an authoritative position, even if the argumentative person has no real qualifications to base their pronouncements upon, like Mod Lib. 🙂

I cant verify. But apparently ML bragged that he/she got the US election absolutely correct to the last electoral vote, as well as the last federal election here.
Fiona
“I hate sounding schoolmarmish….”
Yep, but there’s no need to.
I am well aware of the sentiments about arguing that you went on to describe, and by and large that is my practice.
At the time I drew attention to the Gordonsthoughts comments I thought this site was closing down imminently and I was obliquely reflecting the very sentiments you urge (ie leave the argumentativeness for argumentativeness’s sake up to other sites) and that I had enjoyed that aspect of this site. 🙂
Psyclaw,
Thank you; I’m glad that you understood my trepidation.
C@t, forget PB. We have a great little community here, we can make this work. Many people here look up to you to set a good example. I know I do. I was dismayed when you left TPS. I dislike people behaving like they do, so I just kept away. Lets keep this blog free from sniping. That is what Franks blog turned into and it died. Take a deep breath, close the PB link, surf the net, write another one of your brilliant articles, we are here waiting to hear the good stuff from you, BB, Joe6pack, Fiona……and many others here that can write well and get us all thinking.
C@t
Neurones effectiveness inversely proportional to increasing age. Thanks for being my memory aide. 🙂
markjs1,
Thank you for the tonic. 🙂
I guess I would love this blog to become a respected Progressive blog too. I just worry that no one will come here, no matter how hard we try and make it good, when we are up against an established behemoth in Poll Bludger.
Morning peoples!
An interesting read about fighting rape. Seems there are crazies out and about in India proposing all manner of extreme Laura Norder approaches to gang rapists.
http://www.abc.net.au/unleashed/4454784.html
Cuppa,
Yes, the tone of PB for 2013 was well and truly set by William with that comment to Dan, and, of course bemused and feeney licking their lips with relish at the prospect of not being pulled into line by William Bowe. Already.
Good morning confessions! I don’t know why you are lining up to cop all the insults and back-biting from bemused all over again? 🙂
Ignoring a bully – because that’s what these objectionable posters are – does not mean they have won or are ruling the roost. It means you didn’t bite, you denied them the opportunity of slinging more abuse. It’s the biting back that gives these fools what they crave – attention and fuel for more posts full of their own hot air. PB would have been a much nicer place in the week before Christmas without the pages and pages of pointless arguments. I scrolled through it when I was there, but it actually drove me away for a while and from the shortage of more interesting posts I’d say it drove many others away too. If you ever need a lessson in how to destroy a blog just go back and look at those pages.
I’ll be hanging out here and at PB because I enjoy both. I just hope this place keeps its good atmosphere.
Anyway, that’s enough from me. I’m starting to depress myself. So it’s back to being positive for me. 🙂
C@tmomma,
I’m going to exert my authority as an older woman (by ?one year) and say YES (to being positive, that is…) – and the best way of doing it is to stop dwelling on things that we cannot change and get on with those that we can!
was told once i belonged elsewhere
perhaps this is elsewhere,, went crying to a pb
i got no sympathy
so here we are.here lets make this work sadly i am not good at wrting stuff
my fear is writing suff and it would be wrong and getting people on here in to strife, so i amvery careful only do links
but my lap is very modern but links are not show in full is there a way i can link, now ihave to send the email with the link to myself then copy
come back here and paste
Who in Labor has accused Abbott?
LABOR has accused Tony Abbott of trying to jack up his standing with female voters after his top adviser, Peta Credlin, gave an interview defending her boss against sexism claims and talking about her own IVF treatment.

Like others have said, I’m very glad the tragics site will continue. C@t, FWIW, I agree with Leonetwo about ignoring bullies doesn’t necessarily mean they’ve won, just that you’ve refused to bite and it denies them attention.
C@t:
I usually just ignore him. I find it’s the best way to deal with bullies.
victoria:
Was it Roxon?
mark js stood up for me, i think thats when he left pb
what about twetters[ not abc] like sk where has she gone
i get a lot from very informative tweets. and you can then go and look at the thread of the tweets
this could be a place new media, when links are put re gratton
ive never read them.
i just been down on the river for a walk, imagine the pictures you see on your screen of Chinese cities smog, but think smoke
and thats our city
no rain is forecast
C@tmomma::
I guess I would love this blog to become a respected Progressive blog too. I just worry that no one will come here, no matter how hard we try and make it good, when we are up against an established behemoth in Poll Bludger.
Oh I wouldn’t worry about that. You’re not ‘up against’ anything. There are lots of political blog sites out there and they all co-exist, so there’s no reason PBX and PB can’t sit side by side. Half of them are off-shoots of something else. So, write a good piece here, link it over there, you’ll be fine. A lot of people really want to read the entries you and BB and others write. It’s your job to let them know where they can find them.
Oh, and forget about personalities. Not important. Reading about what one poster thinks of another one – especially one who isn’t even posting here – just gets in the way of the political discussion. It also legitimises them.
This place will do well. It’s so well moderated you don’t even know it’s happening, and that’s always a good sign. You might want to think about changing the name, though. You could still call it PBX – but maybe ‘Political Bloggers in Exile’?
confessions
Roxon did not accuse Abbott. Roxon was asked about it during a presser on the Tasmanian bushfires. Roxon’s reaponse was very measured
leonie , i have come across a few bullie in my life
but they dont ignore you[ meaning people] they keep going
i had freind who was cyber bullied ,, face book / blocked
then text messages. voice mail
so some even if you ignore them,, they dont stop
victoria:
I wouldn’t know, I just recall her being asked about it, so assumed it was her.
Gotta hand it to the Liberals! First they spin a storm about Sensitive Tony. Then they spin up another storm when Labor criticises them for the Spin.
confessions
Roxon’s comments are in the article i linked
OK, OK, I was going to put this up at Poll Bludger after the latest piece of revisionist tripe bemused posted at 9.24am, but I’ll just deposit it here instead, as my first step on the road to being positive 😀
bemused@101:
Rossmore@100
Bemused, welcome back from detention.
Thanks Rossmore.
I am not sure what my status was after 27th December but decided I would not post on that blog of infamy, as to do so would only lend it credibility it did not deserve.
It was interesting to see how a little power brought out the inner bully in some.
I noted you did not join in. 🙂
bemused,
Continually trying to diminish the efforts made over the 2 week period Poll Bludger was inactive, by those who put together PBX only serves to make you seem the mean-spirited Poll Bludger bully everyone has you tagged as.
Power did not go to anyone’s head at PBX. We simply created a convivial atmosphere in which to continue to discuss politics, and especially after the 27th of December, when you were banned from contributing, it worked a treat. And, yes, you were banned. So don’t lie that you ‘stopped contributing’, you know you would have given your right arm to be allowed to keep on contributing. As the e-mail exchanges would show if they became public.
Frankly, the truth is, as everyone knows, you are a vindictive little pissant, and debate about politics is much more constructive and convivial without your contribution. It was a pleasure and a relief not to have to put up with it after you quickly showed your true colours at PBX.
Ugh, being offline sucks. I’m changing my internet provider and unfortunately this requires 6-10 days of downtime, so it’s borrowed internet for me until then.
I’d be happy to look at both blogs as well. It was really nice discussing things here over the holidays. And while shenanigans at PB can be amusing (I thought Rosemour exploding into a great big hissy fit at me was hilarious), the ones that go on and on for literally months with constant seething hostilities without end tend to really get you down.
Mumble has spoken
The Labor government’s only chance of victory would be personnel changes at the top.
But they march towards the cliff with a fatalistic calm.

is spot on.
in the meantime an another take on the the yesterday storyhttp://turnleft2013.wordpress.com/
Many thanks indeed to J6P, BB, C@tmomma, Fiona, and everyone who did so much to keep us online. I, too, find the endless self-justification on PB to be tedious. Here is a refreshing change which I’ll continue to enjoy.
Thanks and Best Wishes
gosh changes at the top, wrong party i think
it cracks me up that jounos think they can change minds
well some they may but what is their readership
do the same old people buy it from news stands . does it sit in
localities not opened,
i noitced quite few aust. copies at my local store the other day
they looked as though they had not been touched you know.
when one is picked up the other copies looked like they have been
moved, no perfect pile.
so is it like talk back radio talking to the same old peolple over and over.
on the off chance that one new person may be listening or reading,
Cuppa,
Gotta hand it to the Liberals! First they spin a storm about Sensitive Tony. Then they spin up another storm when Labor criticises them for the Spin.
It’s all they’ve got. sad really, when you think about it. Not that I have any sympathy for the situation they have gotten themselves into over the last 2 years of ‘Lies Not Policy’. 🙂
It’s pretty emblematic of the Coalition, that the subject they have hung their hooks on now, IVF, is symbolic of men sexually shooting blanks, or women having dried up currants for wombs. Symbolic of the nature of their policy cupboard, as blank and empty as Mother Hubbard’s cupboard, and women Shadow Front Bench protagonists who are dried-up, bitter and twisted. 🙂
And I meant no offense to anyone who has had to struggle through IVF.
Might I also add, what next are we to expect from the Coalition?
‘Julie Bishop Exclusive’, in this week’s Womans Day:
‘My IVF Struggle to Have A Baby at 56’.
Spin, spite and spittle, and being supine to the Big End of Town – what a basis on which to conduct a political existence.
denese,
I think even the old people who read The Australian have figured out how to access it online now. 🙂
Though, as someone commented recently, the real reason they still have it at the shops is so people can glance at the front page blaring anti Gillard Government headlines.
you will never get the diehard pbs here
they see it as their home.
well we have built 4 homes in our time and lived in two others while the others where being built and then their was our flat

when i say family home its a beach house they lease
Just had a visit to PB.
If I were prospecting for gold I believe I would have more chance of finding a useful nugget on this site, even after dry blowing the entire mullock heap that is PB.
…as for some posters on PB. I find that the level of blind, unreasoning jealousy directed at BB, C@t and all the other lucid, cogent writers to be hilarious. A vitriol reserved only for the better writers. Bile is a sour, bitter poison that most avoid. That BB, C@t and others can, at will, generate such copious amounts in the tragically myopic and blindly reactive is cause for mirth. This would be about the only time I’m happy not to be able to communicate with as much passion, skill and depth as BB, C@t and others.
But this rings true of the blind and vitriolic.
Jealousy – that jumble of secret worship and ostensible aversion.

C@T,BB and others?
The more they profess to despise your writing, the more they wish they were you. It’s in your place that they wish to be.
Hi Ian
Great post.
i could see the other side of this
every girl i have known that has ivf hardly ever tell any one
i think they prefer to keep it private in case people keep asking them
silly question. becauce when it does not succeed , they cannot talk about it. ive known some to give birth and thank the dr, in the birth columns i have known others who will tell you
when they are say 7 months
and i bet there are many who dont tell any one,
only becauce they are private people
so i dont know any one one who has told me their intentions
Ian,
That is a comforting thought.
ian hope your a regular
you must of read my mind,
i love your thoughts on life , so deep and meanfull
i get the feeling you have great insight, to things
