I am sorry I have not been contributing lately but I was unwell and not up to writing.
These links are sent out by email and while the focus is on South Australia, national topics dominate.
I do however point out for your perusal, this obe, which may become the blueprint for the rest of Australia l in regard to political donations.
South Australia’s leap into the unknown with political finance changes
By Bill Browne in InDaily https://tinyurl.com/5da3kmf2
Quote: ‘
…
In South Australia, sitting MPs and registered political parties are now banned from receiving political donations. However, the laws include loopholes: Political parties can still charge their own MPs and staff levies (worth millions of dollars) and still take money from “nominated entities”, such as an established investment vehicle.
Of course, the small political parties and independent candidates who compete with major parties do not have many or any MPs to extract levies from, and have no investment vehicles that could operate outside the donation ban.
In exchange for limiting political donations, South Australians will pay about $18 million more in taxpayer funding of political parties and candidates every four-year cycle. Of this, the Australia Institute estimates about 75 per cent will go to the major parties and only 1-2 per cent to new entrants.

I don’t suppose they even know what “recidivism” means.
An article from the US of A but exactly the same thing has been happening here in our press and very frequently with our pollies. 😦 It was grimly funny at times to see some of the language used to avoid saying the (apparently) unsayable. Rupert’s scum crew were of course leading the pack.

If wishes were fishes …
Some day, politicians will realize that increasing penalties is no deterrent.
They could make it on pain of death and it would make no difference.
I rather suspect they know and are just doing it for gullible voters.
Ah yes, politicians and their bipartisan enthusiasm for getting their piggy snouts in the trough. I just can’t understand why their ‘profession’ is held in such low regard by the peasantry 😦 .

Yes but the main thing is to give the great unwashed the appearance of them ‘doing something’. Minns needs a win after his risible showing over the Harbour Bridge march. It is also great news for the NSW Rump Corp and bureaucrat communities. Their fees for tobacco ‘Gaze Aversion’ will go up enormously.
Tobacco and ‘getting tough’ was also a front page item over here in the Wild Wild West. They worry about current tobacco prices. Gosh I wonder what making it contraband will do to prices.

I believe the conflict about Isreal and Palestine is a simple one. Until both sides learn to love their neighbours’ children as their own, and learn to love their own children more than they hate each other, peace will never happen.
If I am accused of playing the both sides card, then I agree.
Both sides need to sit down and say to each other, ‘We, as mothers and fathers will not be here forever, we are mortal. What do we want for your children and my children. When we are gone, how will they live?
That brings me to the issue of fake propaganda. Isreal set up fake news by filming clearly set up scenes in basement rooms with baby bottles etc to prove hostages had been kept there. It is not the only time, either.
But….while there is hunger, and babies without life saving formula in Gaza, the photos of emaciated starved children are not authentic.
You tell me why a ‘starved’ child is with a fat mother? Why a Palestinian child with a genetic health tragedy flown with help by Isreal to Syria for treatment is presented as starvation?
Because these children have a genetic disorder, that is why.
And their terrible situations have been weaponised to cause righteous outrage. Other photos are of starving children in Yemen, not Gaza.
Be careful what you react to, and rewarding untruths.
Food aid has to get through, yes. Hungry children must be fed and given medicine. Isreal, Palestine and the world must ensure this. The world does the children no good by taking sides based on fake propaganda. It simply prolongs the pain.
There has to be talks, negotiations and a genuine wish for peace. The rightwing government of Isreal needs to be replaced by genuine peacemakers, and for the Palestinians, the same.
If I am to march, and protest, it will be to pressure both sides to resolve this without violence.
The truth is, no matter history or past wrongs or rights, Palestine is never going away, Isreal is never going away. That is a reality that will never go away.
And from that, both need to work this out, on the premise that their children will live in peace, as neighbours and not enemies.
Otherwise, no matter how much we in the West protest, this conflict will still be fought generations from now.
That is why I will not march for Palestine, nor Isreal.
PTMD, I’ve been off-line for a few days with a new computer and installing Windows 11, combined with internet outage.
So, thank you for your excellent thread starter, and for your thoughtful and beautifully written post above. You’ve made me think more carefully than just the ‘black and white’, ‘us and them’ ideas.
My blog introduction was quite a few years ago, when I found Margo Kingston’s blog on the SMH. That eventually led me to Pollbludger and the eventual seamless transition to The Pub.
We might be small and sometimes quiet, but since its beginning it has been my home page on Firefox and its predecessors and regular postings and links by Pubsters are always worth exploring. Over the years, when anyone shares something more personal, it is a genuinely felt privilege, as it is with a friend in real life.
Thank you, Puffy, and thank you also to the other Pubsters (including lurkers) and those who keep The Pub open.

JEEBUS ! WTF is Labor thinking ? The CIS is a ‘Menzies fan club’ affiliated with The Atlas Network in ‘Murica’. Yeah, think Ayn Rand and Atlas Shrugged. Atlas Network by the way were formally endorsed by F.A. Hayek, Margaret Thatcher, and Milton Friedman. So you can guess what CIS wants when it comes to economics. Although I’m sure they know enough to not look too threatening and sound oh so reasonable as they advocate for policies that ensure the share of wealth possessed by the ‘1%’ continues to increase.
Andrew Leigh is a long, long way from Randy An.
I’m guessing the Tulip is only there for decoration.
It’s one less comeback (why weren’t the RWNJs invited?!) when the report, if any, comes out.
True. When it comes to Leigh I’d like to see him have free reign. I’ve long suspected that Labor Right and so called ‘hard heads’ have very much ‘cramped his style’ when it comes to what he’d like to do.
As for no RWNJs complaints . Apart from the Rupertariat SFA would give a tinkers cuss about the lack of RWNJs. Certainly not we plebs. No use playing nice with the bustards, they’ll still shit on you from a great height at the first opportunity.

All you have to know is Rick is a talk show host and as such his show is ALL about ratings. It ain’t the place to go expecting any wisdom.
It is well and truly overdue for Israel to be declared a pariah state. Bibi’s name needs to be put in the same file as names like Pol Pot. Just the latest in a long series of war crimes from the $%@^^#!

Only 1.5% of Gaza cropland left for starving Palestinians due to Israel’s war, UN says
Israel has targeted food sources – orchards, greenhouses, farmland and fishers – since the beginning of its siege on Gaza in October 2023…………………….Last week, Israeli forces partially demolished a seed bank in Hebron, in the West Bank, destroying tools and equipment used to used to reproduce heirloom seeds.
UN experts, agencies and aid groups have been warning since early 2024 that Israel is orchestrating a campaign of deliberate mass starvation in Gaza by systematically destroying local food production and blocking aid, in violation of international law….

Oh good, I see Israel’s ruling War Crimes-R-Us party have worked up a new euphemism for their ethnic cleansing crimes , it is now called “enforced displacement orders“.
I think I’ll make that Boiling Water essay an article here next weekend.

When I say “combat zone”
There is a disturbance in the force. It’s ever so mildly worded but even such anodyne criticism of Israel from the Rupertarium is rare as hen’s teeth and Sheridan a Mordor Media loyalist of the first order. I take it as an acknowledgement that they feel even their 10th Dan Black Belt skills in bullshit and propaganda can no longer hold back reality.

Did someone say ‘turds’ ? Speaking of which………………..
Read a poem tonight by WH Auden, titled August 1968. It sums up Trump to a T.
And yet a bigly chunk of the US population came to see him as the ‘solution’ to what ails them. That or him being a big ‘Fcuk You !’ to BAU.
Easy to point the finger at the ‘dumb voters’ but my vote for responsibility still goes to the US of A’s increasing economic inequality. Business conditions for Demagogues-R-Us Inc. always improves markedly when that inequality ramps up..
