Australian Election Day 2025

Finally it’s here, the day of the Australian Federal Election, 3 May 2025.

Polling has the Two-Party Preferred vote at roughly 52-48 to 53-47 to Labor, with primary votes for both Labor and the Coalition being in the mid-30’s, the Greens vote between 12-15%, One Nation being around 7-8%, and a large Other vote to fill the rest.

Feel free to post predictions, events that take place today, speculations, observations once the votes are counted, all are welcome.

There’s a high chance that things won’t be decided tomorrow night, there’s a lot of things up in the air, especially the Senate, but hopefully over the next few days they’ll be sorted out and determined for sure, and hopefully will result in a government that’s beneficial to Australia.

  1. ‘Neoliberalism lite’ is no solution to Australia’s cost-of-living and productivity crises. We must curb wealth concentration

The upcoming productivity roundtable must accept this as a systemic risk, and confront it directly

Damned right but I wont hold my breath for any changes. The Libs are of course keen on the ‘full strength’ rather the ‘lite’ but sadly Labor has been on board the ‘Neoliberal Lite’ train for decades. There are some Labor voices starting to speak out a bit louder about the need to get off it so you never know.

Given the size of politicians’ self preservation glands I suppose we’ll have to wait until we plebs are overwhelmingly calling for change and BAU becomes electorally toxic. Fortunately ‘The Wrath of Rupert’ is not feared as it once was so the odds of pollies ‘doing something’ will have increased immeasurably.

NB if Latham were to be kicked out for bankruptcy (no idea if this is a serious risk or not) One Nation could return to the NSW parliament for as long as it took the replacement to quit the party or get kicked out of it. #nswpol http://www.smh.com.au/politics/nsw...

David French succinctly explains why the Epstein issue is non-negotiable to large parts of Trump's base, starting around 5:55. We are living through a slow-burn satanic panic where a large percentage of evangelicals believe that child traffickers run the United States of America.

The below is a few days old, but it passed me by and it wasn’t covered much in Australia as far as I can tell.

France has announced a “historic” accord with New Caledonia in which the overseas territory, rocked by deadly separatist violence last year, would remain French but be declared a new state.

  3. MAGA Turns on Donald Trump Over Lack of Jeffrey Epstein List

😆 Trump is in for a world of pain. The shit sheet press who were his fan base are suddenly remembering these photos.

There was lots of talk of Trump being ‘on the list’ etc back then and he was in danger of it engulfing him and then it just disappeared. I suspect Trump followed the strategy advised by his back in day strategist Steve Bannon. He always reckoned

Steve Bannon………“The Democrats don’t matter, The real opposition is the media. And the way to deal with them is to flood the zone with shit.”

Having tech bros controlled software ‘organising our lives’ does not appeal.

  7. A heavy drinker

Victoria Police apprehended an alleged “prolific slab stealer” on Wednesday, saying the Melbourne man stole 88 slabs of alcohol over the last six months.

Police from Melbourne’s Bicycle Patrol allegedly saw the man walk into a bottle shop in Melbourne’s CBD on Wednesday, where he grabbed a slab and walked out without paying. Officials allege the man has stolen roughly two slabs a day during a bevy of thefts over the last six months from three Melbourne-area bottle shops. The total value of the alcohol stolen is about $14,000, they said.
