Felicitations Friday!

Memrise

This is definitely a knees-up Friday.

Another grandchild for BK

Party City

Another brilliant post from Bushfire Bill (and equally brilliant renaming thereof)

Amazon

Another unbelievable week from this agile, innovative, exciting regime that seems to be losing its wheels at a smart clip

Car Crash

More than high time for a good carouse (and I will finish marking the assignments tomorrow).

  1. Bob Katter talks up his far north state brainfart.

Group forms to make State of North Queensland a reality

    Get this bit –

“In fact I think a lot of people on the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast and the South West, would like to come with us. There are few more centralised governments in the world.

Um – if you take far north Queensland, add the Sunshine Coast, the Gold Coast and the south-west then don't you have – Queensland?

As for the brilliant idea to move the border south to take in northern NSW – that could mean war.

  2. Well, checking out Mario Lanza led me to his version of Nessun dorma, which led me to compare Pavarotti’s version of same, and then to My Way by the Three Tenors (with Sinatra in the audience, awed), and finally to the best version of all… raw, emotional and heartfelt…

A fitting tribute to you, my friend, BK.

  3. There is a Reachtel out just now showing 50-50 2PP, with Turnbull ahead on Preferred PM only 58-42.

    Rehabillitation Week indeed!

    • That Reachtel has gotta be bullshit..With many hard-core right -wingers rejecting this Turnbull Govt’, I can’t see them even going with the flow on a telephone poll without making a “intention protest” and then there are the welded ons’..which are only around 40% EVER! and some of them would be giving a protest answer and the swinging voters CAN’t be seriously siding with this wipe-out govt’ without losing their “swinging status”…so I reckon the reality would be somewhere in the vicinity of 45 / 55, but only as a temporary protest polling….on election day it would lift somewhat as the f#ckwit right-wing come back to momma!

  4. That’s not a wave, this is! Ride it Laborhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qmMeqid_fmU

  5. I love music. Brought up in a very working class household with the tranny on all the time and the 78’s available. Luckily my Mum had a really broad range of musical appreciation and fortunately I’ve inherited that.
For quite a while now I’e been frustrated with my sound system. I’ve spent ages rearranging speakers etc. All to no avail.
About 3 weeks ago I got 2 hearing aids.
Those speakers aren’t as bad as what I thought !!

  6. Just got back from the city and the market…heard this tune today and can’t shake it!..;

  7. Cigarettes, Whisky and wild, wild women. They’ll drive you crazy , they’ll drive you insane.

Can’t remember who sang this or for that matter what comes next

    One of the 78’s

But then there’s a line: “somebody get that bum outta here”

    That got the laughs

Can anyone else remember the Salvo bands playing on the street corners early Sunday mornings?

    • John Howard can. I realised what a sad chap he was when he told of how as a wee ‘un about his most fave thing was to go and watch those Salvation army bands

  8. Beer Beer Beer ? A kiwi song of the 60s had a more balanced diet . Well , as it was un 1960s InZud .

  9. Of course, if they ever showed 45 / 55 to Labor, Turnbull would be challenged..so one has to ask where Reachtel has parked its options ?

  10. But you think about it..seriously..Bolt , Jones and his crown DESPISE Turnbull..why would they not give a polling negative to try and bring on a challenge to set things right for themselves..and the welded ons…sure, you might get a 100% condescension from them in a phone poll…but I doubt it!…there’s another couple of percent..and then there’s the swinging voters who have everything to GAIN by giving a warning to the sitting govt’ they may have voted for last election…

So I call BULLSHIT! on that Reachtel poll.

    • Must keep up the illusion of the government being in front.

Why do they bother asking the preferred PM question? If we got to vote on who would be PM there would be a point to it, but as we don’t have a say why ask?

  11. Another 60s kiwiana song. As a kid these lines and the lead up truly cracked me up.

Pom chap:Jove it is getting rather warm in here. I shall cook if I stay in here much longer.
Maori chap : Oh you catch in quick boy
Pom chap : Great Scott ! so that’s your little game is it ? You can’t cook me sir ! I’m a cabinet minister !
Maori chap: That’s all right boy . We’re not fussy
    .
Puha are greens ( sort of sow thistle) and of course Pakeha = European

    • Theme for one of the cheesiest movies ever made. Not a fan, sorry.

      I prefer the Simpsons version.

  12. jaycee
You’re going back a bit there with Percy Faith.
How about Andre Kostelanitz, Mantovani, Guy Lombardo, Bob Crosby, Manuel and the Music of the Mountains,, Eric Jupp , 101 Strings . . . ?

    • I didn’t want to inflict that on the more romantically-minded Pubsters. But I’m glad you did.

    • Lots ofromantic bones, actually, but it would be a sad old world if we all liked exactly the same things.

if you want romantic, I love this – the song is as old as I am.

  13. On reachtel

keep in mind that they have tended to show more favourable results to the coalition that say newspoll or essential.

  14. Also does anyone know how many candidates the Nick Xenophon vanity project is running?

    • Don’t know, but he has already had a couple of drop-outs.

Glenn Frost, the head of the NSW Xenophon senate team has resigned as a candidate although he remains a party member. He said it was due to differences of opinion with Xenophon and the head office campaign manager. According to a paywalled piece in Crikey today there are some who say Frost just wasn’t working hard enough. Friction in the party already – that doesn’t sound good.

Frost is the second NXT candidate to step away from the campaign — former Makin candidate Craig Bossie withdrew due to an “unexpected health issue”.

  17. BK,

jaycee, You’re going back a bit there with Percy Faith.
How about Andre Kostelanitz, Mantovani, Guy Lombardo, Bob Crosby, Manuel and the Music of the Mountains,, Eric Jupp , 101 Strings . . . ?

I’m pretty sure I’ve got an album or 2 of all of them except the last 3 here somewhere as well as a Mario Lanza one or two & a couple of Percy Faiths lying around.

Plenty of dust & cobwebs on them by now though! 😉

My keyboard has been out of action for a number of days now. Didn’t like half a glass of wine poured into its inner workings..
