  1. scorpio6to2,
Of all the eventualities of an Abbott government, the one that scares me the most is the control that he would seek to exert over the free expression of opinion on the Internet, in fora such as this and other blogs critical of an Abbott government.

    Scenario:

Someone who is a regular Bolt affectionado gets wind of this blog, with our pointed and eloquent criticism of the Conservatives 😉

They report us to the Communications Minister. He has introduced laws similar to those spreading around the world now whereby dissent on the internet can be controlled. Such as in Singapore. That is, if you are deemed to be spreading an ‘anti-government message’ you receive a fine. Then, I believe, 3 strikes/fines and you are out. You cannot continue to transmit on the internet. Good old Singtel Optus, as your ISP, is ordered to cancel your account and to stop providing you with bandwidth.

I’m sure you could keep trying to open up new accounts via your network of friends, but eventually the same thing would happen to them. A very chilling scenario.

Which is why a publicly-owned/government-funded NBN, and not a Murdoch-run equivalent, is so important to see to fruition.

  2. It would not suprise me if the LNP. now try something quite desparate and low…..hence all the sudden quiet!

  3. puffytmd,

    { Nice to see you here Scorps, It is always great to chat to you. }

I’m always here even if a bit quiet at times! 😉

  4. HaveAchat.

    { they then popped my eye out and placed it on a small tray beside my chin while lasering the cancer }

It’s not often that you can keep an eye on the surgeon while they are messing around with your body! 😉

I bet the Surgeon felt more nervous than you did! 😉

    Bed time . Night all!

  5. Isn’t it strange how, with the establishment of social media, we, who have only ever really just watched the political circus from the outside, have been drawn into the internal machinations of political maneuvering.
I wonder if we; the public, are just a tad amateurish to fully comprehend the intricacies of the backroom dealings when it comes to “rea’l Politik”?
I hope in the end it is not our political inocence that becomes the real victim in this election!

  6. Back-pedalling furiously and trying to salvage some dignity(or, is that indignity for a shock jock?) :

Perth radio broadcaster Howard Sattler is “flabbergasted” after being sacked from radio station 6PR following Thursday’s bizarre interview with the Prime Minister.

“I’ve given 28 years of my life to this station,” Sattler told WAtoday’s Aleisha Orr. “I don’t want a medal or anything for it but I’ve done a lot of good for a lot of people. I’d like to think I could have done more good.”

Pity all the good he may or may not have done has been wiped away in one fell swoop by that interview. And that’s the point. He went for broke and lost the lot.

  7. jaycee,
I have seen the machinations from the other side, and still do from time to time. I think we make as educated a guess as a lot of the more professional commentators. Probably getting it right and wrong in similar proportions. Much as we decry them, they do get some things right from time to time. We just don’t make as big a deal about it when we agree with them. We do comment on it, and even praise them when they agree with us 😉 but a greater furoré is created when we disagree.

It’s fun to do though, isn’t it? 🙂

  8. Scorps

They placed a small piece of material over my eye because I could still see what was happening………. hee hee isn’t the injection that I remember as being the worst, it was the smell from the lasering. Still that was the first of my several experiences with cancer, after numerous operations, eight chemo sessions and three years I was given the all clear. It has now been eleven years and my annual body scans are still clear, might reach the century afterall. 😉

  9. t comma 10..32

agree if abbott gets in i think we will have to flee from here

truly believe we will feel like we live in argentina of years ago’

  10. i am hoping abbott will go for broke to and lose the lot

out there in the world you woudnt think there is any abbott voterw

    when you talk to people,

do i talk to the wrong people

  11. Evening all,

    Big week !

How tough is our PM !

Bit of action on twitter atm.

Labor locked in behind PMJG is the word.

    Cheers,

  12. socks i hope its linked to twitter
    ===============================
will they even read it or see it

is that so, or are they doing as they are told

  13. Just picked up a very nice line from Twitter. We should start referring to the upcoming election as the National IQ Test.

  14. I tell you what HAS changed whatever the outcome…This current batch of MSM. journos will from this time on always be seen as a bunch of cxxt’s…
    Goodnight all!

  15. denese,

    I have no real idea.

I have some of my Canberra friends( strong labor supporters ) at my house for dinner who are playing around on twitter.

They just reported it to me about 20 minutes ago over post dinner “drinks”.

    They love Julia.

  16. its great to have soul mate friend doley

what do they think of our chances

perhaps you cannot say,, that’s ok

  17. denese,

They said tonight is will be very very hard but the only chance the party has is stick with Julia.

    Two reasons,

She is the best person for the job. Rudd would crack again under the pressure the OM would pit on him

    and

Any change would destroy the credibility of the party.

The OM are just waiting with all the lines prepared about standing for nothing, weak, poll driven etc etc

There would be a permanent taint on the party. Any time polls went sour the OM and coalition would be straight onto “who will labor put in now ” etc.

The call by the OM for leadership change now because of poor polls is as much about destroying the party for the future as it is about the current election.

    Cheers.

  18. To the shock of no one, tomorrow’s Australian is going to be chock-full of leadershit ‘yarns’, apparently.

  19. denese,

    Yes,

twitter is reporting that Rudd does not have the numbers, he will not challenge and the party is locked in behind Julia.

The reports they are looking at are from friends still in Canberra.

    The party has decided apparently.

How true it is will be shown over the next few days.

  20. doyleym

Interesting feedback. No doubt we shall know soon enough which way the party is going to go.

  21. Denese, the party decided a few months ago. This is all BS [sorrt for the bad language]

  22. Jack The Insider.

PM is partly to blame for Sattler’s abusive questioning because:

    1. She played the gender card,

    2. She announced the election early.

By referring to it as a “Card” Jack seems to believe there are no gender issues in Australia.

The PM is not above blame. She has played the gender card as a political ruse and she has never been above making personal attacks. When Ms Gillard announced the election date back in February, the nation was plunged into ersatz campaign mode. There was never any doubt that the campaign would descend into the tasteless and the crude at some point.

  23. Just saw this on twitter

[Just heard that #lateline reported a key Labor figure will ask the PM to stand down tomorrow. Can someone confirm?]

    Who?

  24. Some late night good news. The EU carbon price has soared to its highest level in months. If all goes well it will mean our carbon price will also rise. I don’t understand all the economics and political machinations involved, but for those who can handle it, here’s the info.
    http://www.skynews.com.au/topstories/article.aspx?id=879755

Good news for the government and the budget bottom line, bad news for
    Abbott and Snarky Joe.

  25. victoria,

    That is my understanding.

My friends are of the view the party is locked in and will go with Julia.

    We shall see.

  26. Well if John someone or other Murphy wants to ask PMJG the Question, let him go for it.

I hope he has ordered a new suit. The scorch marks will never come out.
