  1. well I feel virtuous, I discovered the vacuum cleaner, floor mop and used them, did 2 loads of washing for good measure and just heard a crack of thunder and a pathetic attempt at rain

  2. SK:

I had a consultancy for a while and basically worked 24/7. Never had holidays, couldn’t ever take sick days, was working ridiculously long hours.

While the freedom to make your own decisions and be accountable only to your own goals and ambitions was fantastic, I ended up burnt out after 2 years, and bordering on chronic stress and anxiety to the point that I couldn’t face making ANY decision.

It’s only now that I’ve really learned you can’t please everyone all the time, so maybe it’s better trying to please a majority most of the time. Oh to be older and wiser!

  3. Confessions,

I hear you. I have a lot of clients who are in the same position wanting me to ready the business for sale. The day the biz changes hands you can physically see the difference in their body language.

  4. Not heard of them.

Exactly. Under the original owners they used to be renowned for growing Pinot Noir, but not anymore.

There are a growing number of Great Southern wineries which are taking their place on the domestic and international wine radar, which is a perfect environment for local winery owners prepared to dig in and have a go.

  5. Is the business doing better now?

The new owners have a lot of work to do. They are talking about re-opening to the public around xmas time.

But they are a young couple in their early 30s, recognise the hard, physical labour ahead of them, and are prepared to get stuck in and give it a go.

I wish them well. Their optimism is a refreshing change from the bitterness and recriminations of the previous owner.

  6. I suspect that this may already have been posted today, as BB’s postcards feature in ths article, but this is what i feel is the situation re Coalition NBN plan

[Since the release of the Coalition’s broadband policy on Tuesday it has become clear that the policy is designed to fail. Even if taken at face value it is clear that the plan will not be able to meet its targets. So why devise a policy destined to fail?]

  7. Ducky:

The best bubbles in France are made with Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier grapes.

  8. “So why devise a policy destined to fail?”

Because there will be many another “policy to fail” to make the voters ignore policies as in “ho hum, another one”.

It is designed to make policies irrelevant for the election.

  9. Ducky:

The husband is a wine maker himself, having followed in his father’s footsteps. I can’t remember the wine venture they’re in together, but he knows his wine.

His wife (gorgeous woman) has worked cellar door at other wineries. Her people skills are fantastic, and I love that she just refers to herself as a waitress when asked about what she does. 😀

I think these people have the right combination of skills and attitude to make their project work. Plus they can bounce off each other – always easier to run a business when you have someone else to share the downs and highs with in my experience.

  10. And this on twitter re Turnbull is spot on

Turnbull is a smooth talking salesman but his voting record so far: 1. Against Carbon price/ETS 2. Against SSM 3. Against #NBN #fraudband

  11. If you think of the election purely in terms of Labor’s NBN v Murdoch’s old business model, you can clearly see how Murdoch would be as nervous as the ALP, if not moreso. He has more to lose.

Looking at it this way, the election is far from a forgone conclusion. And possibly why some commentators have started to break away, albeit slightly, from the groupthink. Oh, except for people like Chris Kenny and Peter Van Onselen who seem to be doubling down, a sure sign of the problem gambler.

  12. Duck…Grant burge is a senior member of the Barossa Valley Liberal Party branch. Agreed, he makes a nice bubbly, but I refuse to buy his brand on that basis!
A rather nice Pinot Noir bubbly is Banrock Station from the riverland…They are also environmentally friendly.

  13. Who won the draw?

Sorry if I missed it – was preoccupied by talk of wine as usual. 😀

  14. Jackhawks

Granted it was after the reelection of Obama, but remember the audio that surfaced of General Petraeus meeting with one of Murdoch’s lackies asking Petraeus to run for President? Murdoch offered to fund it and Roger Ailes was going o run the campaign
I have a dream of something like that here. Video or audio of Murdoch and the coalition lackies agreeing to destroy the govt and the NBN.
All my christmases would come at once.

  15. Beautiful Bronco’s try to Hoffman. I think Hoffman is the dark horse player of 2013. Think he is about to come into his own. Though I’d much rather him at fullback.

  16. Oh indeed, Victoria. I know for a fact that Murdoch and Abbott met last week and had a long business lunch. Oh to have been a fly on the wall.

  17. jackhawkd

Obvious that they met. They had the fraudband launch at Fox Studios ffs!

  18. Puffy

Mitt Romney was giving a speech at a private function, and his comments were recorded with a phone. How fab if it happened here to the Rabbot!

  19. Can’t say anything more than precautions were taken. No chance of a bugged flower display.
