Today’s Guest Authors are a trio of marvellous Pubsters, all of whom are keen photographers. So, please welcome Puffy the Magic Dragon, Scorpio, and This Little Black Duck! I’ve selected a sample of their interesting and highly idiosyncratic photographs for your delectation. It is up to them, now, to tell you the stories behind each shot.
Over to you …

Is that a threat ? 😆
Kaffeeklatscher,
I couldn’t possibly promise.
However, there’s an idea: a thread from Ducky about travels in Argentina …

This is not a joke. My best guess. It could mean, in the event of Rupert’s death, the ABC could suggest to the govt that it might put in an offer if it looks like or only real national newspaper might otherwise close. It is probably only a contingency plan, may not be likely.
https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2017/mar/17/george-osborne-named-new-evening-standard-editor-newspaper this is also not a joke.
Leroy,

Fiona – these days, everyone is in a constant state of gobsmackedness.
Leroy,
I realise that, but every now and then the gobsmack hits hard.
Of course it’s a joke. There’s just so much funny business going on.
Funny business, Ducky?
Try ridiculous, ludicrous, facetious …
Way beyond a joke, and way beyond time that the plebs should be rising with their pikes to the fore.
We walked on Etna in 2004. Very quiet but you could feel the warmth.
Ouch!

Hmm, I’m a little concerned about the outcome of the Dutch election.
Yes, Geert Wilders has been roundly defeated, but virtually all of the parties other than the ruling VVD party (centre-right) have said that they are not willing to form a coalition with the VVD. This essentially means that government in the Netherlands may not be able to be formed.
So basically if the end result is a minority VVD government that’s easily defeated in a no confidence motion, it’s a bit concerning that the Dutch might turn to Wilders in the case that the current parliament fails.
That picture on the volcano rim is of my youngest daughter who recently got to have a close look at this volcano on Ambryam Island in Vanuatu.
On her first trip to Ambam Island a few years ago their scheduled trip up to the volcano crater rim was abandomed after it erupted the night before resulting in a 7.5 Richter earthquake which threw some of her husband’s younger siblings out of their bunk beds at the resort that they were staying at.
The other pictures are of two baby Alexandrine parakeets. They were 2 of 3 that were last springs chicks from the parent birds that we look after for our son here.
Marty the male parent bird is absolutely adorable and is very gentle & affectionate. The female though is totally nuts and takes every opportunity to attempt to bite me & has done so on a few occasions.
Check out the beak on these critters. They can grind up perches & branches to matchwood on double quick time, you betcha yuh! 😉 The Wikipedia entry is well worth a look if you don’t know the history surrounding these beautiful birds.

I went to a jazz night in The Crypt of St Martins in the Fields. The band was Red Stripe. It was a good evening’s entertainment.

“The Café in the Crypt may be underground but there’s no secret that it is one of London’s hottest music venues. Listen to some swing, take a sentimental journey or dance to some Dixieland performed by some of the UK’s finest jazz musicians. While tapping to the tunes, you can soak up some stunning Georgian architecture and enjoy fantastic food and drink provided by the team that was awarded the Les Routiers Cafe of the Year 2012.”

Also I’d be delighted if that poll of federal voting intention was true in WA. Mainly because it’d result in the end of Andrew Hastie.
God I am so sick of that man. For one thing the right wing press hails him as a “Military Hero” because of his involvement in the SAS. And for some reason that excuses him for some of the disgusting “Christian” views he holds so dearly.
The fact that Tony Abbott seems to have such a strong man-boner for this man speaks for itself. An ultra-masculine individual, his father being one of those “fire and brimstone” priests that condemn leftists who believe in equality to eternal damnation. And he seems to be the “go-to” person in relation to the Liberal party’s anti-SSM wing. If only he goes the way of Peter Abetz in the next election, that would be wonderful.
He comes over in the media as a thoroughly revolting man. And not everything in the SAS has been 100% hunky dory either.

Howard gets my vote for most destructive PM ever. His jihad against The Wets has doomed Australia to all the bullshit about the NBN, Climate Change etc etc. He gifted Australia a structural deficit that fwarked finances and sold off for a song virtually everything that actually made money for the government. He destroyed the independence of the Publc Service . His racist bigotry is still echoing across the land. His turning a home into a get rich scheme has farked the nation. Affordable housing is stuffed until a house becomes once again a home.
Oh and he is also an unindicted war criminal
Kaffeeklatscher,
All of the above.
And all because his dad experienced problems after the 1929 depression, and he himself didn’t get a Commonwealth scholarship because he flunked maths in 5th form.
Talk about the politics of envy!
(Although he did manage to win the favour of Janette Parker (born in Kingsford, but we won’t talk about that, because the family moved to Vaucluse.)
Suck upwards, stamp downwards.
AS newly arrived migrants in 1975, I can recall my parents wondering why Mr Fraser would have as his treasurer someone who he seemed to consider with (that wonderful Easter Island face of his) both disdain and startle-ment for the small heartedness Mr Howard would display on occasion.
I’m reliably informed that Mr Hawke is smaller than he appears in life, but Mr Howard is taller. Just goes to show that soul-size is sometimes visible.

Not to mention his being a Methodist !! I can say that because a large proportion of my maternal family were. Had a GG uncle who was a lay Methodist preacher and a GG Aunt who married into the Exclusive Brethren. A very grim lot. Not that the paternal side was any better. Full on Scots Presbyterians of the grimiest variety. Think West Coast Scotland.. Fortunately on both sides of the family heathenism became the predominant religion after WWI.
Kaffeeklatcher,
As far as hoWARd is concerned, methodist, exclusive brethren, vicious scots
‘ presbyters look good.
Kaffeeklatcher,
Why do they feel so misunderstood?
Remember little Johnnie’s playing footsies with the nutters ?

Being a Methodist didn’t stop Howard drinking the Kirribilli house cellars dry. Or was that Janette?
Remember when we paid $120,000 for lavish stocks for the cellar and the Howards scoffed the lot?
Here’s Alan Ramsay.
