  1. This little black duck,

    [ Sheer luck, scorps! ]

Yeah! A bit like the great Arnold Palmer many years ago at his peak.

He played a miraculous shot from a horrific lie in the rough to 18 inches from the pin on the green. A smartarse in the gallery yelled out, “that was a lucky shot”.

Arnold replied with his traditional casual manner, “yeah. I find that the more I practice, the luckier I get”!

  2. orangefox,

A very close relative used to be fond of Marsala and lemonade. Non-alcoholic, you know.

Many years later I introduced said lady and a friend to Scrumpy. Such a pleasant drink that doesn’t inebriate!

  3. BB,

[ Tony Abbott reckons we now face the biggest threat to national security in history? ]

Blimey! Don’t tell me midget subs have come up from the Harbour & are blowing up boats in Devlins Creek!

Better batten down the hatched Bushfire, they’re coming! Hide all the knives in the house too, just in case.
    😉

  4. This little black duck,

You could be right. It’s quite a long while since I last read it. In fact, now you mention it, I do believe you “are” right.

    Again!

Damn. I might get one right one day! 😉

  5. On our way home to Bargara Qld., listening to the radio and all the Terrorist Raids, there was another police report regarding a real terrorist, the police were looking for a gunman on the run, who earlier shot at police.
    Haven.t herd anymore since Thursday.

  6. This little black duck,

[ If you want to visit Your Parliament now you now have to get past a gun-happy cop with an Uzi. ]

Blimey, Ducky! I wonder what would be likely to happen to somebody who decided to wave to his local MP from the gallery at Question Time?

Instead of getting thrown out by security, you could get it in the back of the head by a nervous, AFP cop with a hair trigger Glock!

    Ah, memories, EH?

  7. Joe,
Don’t forget the forward pass before your second try. That gets pulled up, this doesn’t get close.
Post-game, Darren Lockyer (Qld) grudgingly admits it was probably a knock-on. Andrew Johns (NSW) thinks the Cowboys were unlucky.

  8. Just wondered if Toons appears at many games? Or is the plan to let the public enjoy the games while he and his cohorts don’t get noticed to what they are up to?
Beer, sport and gambling will keep the masses happy. (Until they have no job).

  9. Slightly different version of this on the local TV News tonight. Said that explosions were let off at the Primary School up the road from me, (300 to 400 metres away)

Local Rag has shots fired from a house abutting bushland, (School also does & was probably abutting the house)

Never heard a thing here except for a loud ringing in the ears from 5 Police sirens going full blast for a couple of kilometres.

Don’t think they got too many Islamic terrorists while they were there. (probably a few teenagers with an air rifle shooting empty coke cans) Cops were so quiet heading back to the station, I totally missed their return!

  10. This little black duck,

    [ scorps,

All we got from the attendant was “Shh!” ]

Plus that little mention that one can get thrown out for such conduct. My face didn’t go bright crimson for no reason.

Embarrassment can do that to one! 😉

It was a bloody great afternoon, though, wasn’t it!

First time and all for the three of us.

  11. The problem the AFL has is that it is still the VFL with some state sides thrown in. Victoria supplies most of the teams and has to support many clubs while other clubs only have to supply one or two. This gives an advantage to the non-Victorian clubs.

I count 10 Vic clubs and eight from other states. This year there was three non-V clubs and five V clubs in the top eight. While the greater numbers mean statistically a Victoria club has more chance to be in the final that the others, this does not take into account the greater resources available to a one or two clubs in a state rather than ten.

I expect to see a non-V GF very soon, and for that to become the norm. The VF er AFL won’t like that.

  12. scorps,

Very strange. I thought Hayley’s voice would improve with age. Maybe later.

I have her first CD (when she was sixteen).

Off line for a while: dishes to do (A green pork curry with baby spinach).

  13. This little black duck,

    [ Swans 136 – 65.

    I thought they would win, but … ! ]

I thought they won. How much did they lose by? 😉

  14. Scorps,
What did you do? Hiss at the Speaker?

I was so disappointed I never got to Canberra to see PMJG and could not even go to the Community Cabinet she held. I did get to go the the PMKR one and I was thoroughly thrilled to be so close to everyone, it was an awesome experience.

  15. puffytmd,

    [ Scorps,
What did you do? Hiss at the Speaker? ]

[ You went when Bronny was Speaker, right? ]

From memory it was Anna. I wouldn’t have been game to hiss at her, let along Bronny!

Their eyes would be powerful enough to burn holes clean through anyone dumb enough to attempt such a stupid stunt! 😉

  16. Puffy,

[ I was so disappointed I never got to Canberra to see PMJG and could not even go to the Community Cabinet she held. ]

Julia was away the day Ducky, Mrs Scorpio & myself attended QT. We were extremely disappointed.

She was also to chair a Community Cabinet Meeting at the High School just down the road from me & right at the last minute, KR was chosen by Caucus to replace her.

    I decided not to go!

    Bad luck all round.

  17. We went to the HoR with JGPM and Anna in charge.

I think scorps is amiss but we were in the gallery facing the opposition. I would, I think, have given purchase to Julia not being there.

Never mind, her My Story should be in my claws next week.

  18. So, what Rupert’s Poll this weekend shows is (bright lights and fireworks) a definitive judgement on Captain Australia?

We, on the bar stools, know otherwise.

  19. scorpio6to2,
I had the pleasure to meet and have a quick chat with Julia Gillard while she was deputy opposition leader. I reckon if I met her again she would remember that encounter due to a suggestion I made.
