It doesn’t look like a Newspoll is due, there have been no beat-ups favouring the government in the Daily Smelly. I could be wrong, of course, but the Murdoch bogan press is so predictable.Whenever a Newspoll is due they ramp up the hate against the target of the week. There’s been nothing, just gossip and trivia.
It will be interesting to see where they go from here. I’ve maintained all along that the Coalition – in its current form, anyway – can’t ‘do’ competence. They can talk it up, but they’re incapable of actually being competent. They rode in on a wave of populism, brought about mainly by direct attacks on the ALP. Policy work completely disappeared. The intent was to say anything that was likely to get them over the line. So we had some frankly ridiculous, unworkable promises being put out there, simply because they resonated. The one about productivity miraculously skyrocketing simply as a result of removing carbon pricing, that was one of them. The half-plan for stopping boats was another one. All they really did was get the info from the focus groups, then reflect the findings back onto them. You want this? We’ll do it. Don’t ask how, just trust us.
People are quite plainly saying now that they voted the ALP out, not the Coalition in. Accordingly, there’s no goodwill toward the Coalition. That’s what I think the polls are saying now. The Coalition have to generate that goodwill if they’re going to survive this term. But they all seem blithely unaware of the situation. They have to give the public something if they’re going to get a bit of love going their way. But those who aren’t still blathering on about the ALP’s last term are treating the public with contempt, completely disregarding anything they said pre-election and dumping a lot of unpopular stuff on the electorate.
They have to do it, though. It’s all they have. It’s either kowtow to business interests or do nothing at all. They completely lack the sophistication to run the economy by themselves. Everything they’ve been saying for the past 4-5 years indicates that. Hockey’s not a Treasurer, he’s a spiv. It’s all he can manage to get his lines right. Ask him to go beyond that and he loses his temper. Nobody else is up to much, as far as winning over the public. The only one of them who could possibly sweet-talk his way out of the mess they’re in is Turnbull, and he’s been thoroughly discredited now thanks to being so closely tied to their NBN fiasco.
I think the 48-52 they’re currently sitting on is a holding pattern. As they display more and more of their ineptness it should drop a bit. Not having an ALP government to play off is what’s killing them.

Perhaps budgets are tightening out mordor way ?
Monica Attard at The Hoopla:

“Eventually” . Abbott the Bad in an early puff piece on Ch.9 spoke of how when assigned to the Mad Monkery infirmary he almost did a “Jesus and the money lenders” over his outrage at what he considered was the “malingering” of those in the infirmary.
Yet another reason why Australians who voted for the Coalition are like turkeys voting for Christmas:

Kaffeeklatscher,
I know I’ve said this both here and elsewhere: I never thought I could detest an Australian politician more than I detested Mr Howard. PM Blood Oaf, however, leaves him for dead.
This is the “senior member of the Gold Coast LNP” to whose existence Leone alerted us earlier today. A right little cherub:
Seems that things are somewhat quiet at The Pub this evening.
No matter, somebody put up a clip last night that featured a Qld bikie being given the going-over by the CanDo Campbell military Arm ie, six police cars full of the LNP’s finest uniformed thugs.
It had reached 41,000 hits late last night but has now gone viral and will easily hit 400,000 tonight. Not only that, as a number such as that, is somewhat higher than the number of voters that would see a reversal of the previous Qld Election result, it has now attracted some political interest where it seems the Qld Police Commissioner has been instructed to offer a piss poor apology for harassing innocent civilians. (voters) 😉

And even Murdoch’s The Australian had a piece about it although it is not listed on Google News at present.
I wonder why?
The horse has bolted MSM. Defending the indefensible is not just a lost cause, it is positively self destructing into the bargain.
But carry on! It’s bloody funny watching self absorbed rat-bags disintegrating before one’s eyes.
That young Tim Gear who has become famous for his allotted 15 minutes. On appearances he could not possibly be a member of any other party, could he.
Fiona,
I reckon I know who that troll’s daddy is! The teeth are a total give-away! 😉
Scorps,
Do tell! Kambah Mick is longing to know too.
NEW THREAD
A lovely new scandal involving former Liberal MP Alex Somlyay. Oh goody! And to make it even more delicious, this person led the pursuit of Peter Slippper and has chaired parliamentary committees looking into – yep, you guessed it – privileges and members’ financial interests.
