  1. If you don’t have suitable fabric, op shops are the best, and chenille is good because it sucks up a lot of water. Only good use for it as far as I’m concerned.

  2. Also, chooks are seriously hungry animals. I entered into an arrangement with my (then) small local supermarket – and would collect the debris from their fruit and veg twice weekly.

About the only things they must not eat are anything citrus-y, and anything onion-y.

Otherwise, they are completely omnivorous, and the way they attack a roast chicken carcase has to be seen to be believed.

  3. Pol Animal,

What’s more, you are about to discover that foxes live in urban environments. Very successfully, too.

  4. Galaxy result at least keeps the aggregate of recent poll figures back towards 52-48 or a bit better.

  5. Puffy,

The wet bedspreads are brill, and I thought of them ALL BY MYSELF! Especially because back then we weren’t allowed to use even mister hoses.

I did do a bit of rough temperature checking, and the temperature inside the run was about 15 degrees cooler than outside. So definitely worth it.

  6. Back in January , there was a seriously hot day …..over 45′ …there was a fire in the area , so after preparing the house , I went to the chookhouse . Part of it is covered in a passion fruit vine . All the chooks , 19 hens , 1 rooster , were standing in its shade . Beaks open , wings held slightly away from their body . So I sprayed the vine . They loved it . I continued to do this throughout the afternoon . We all survived happily !

  7. Levin,

Next time, give yourself some fabric to help – because it truly does.

    Political Animal,

Yes. They aren’t just inhabiting our parliaments, y’know.

  8. OK, going to hit the sack—spent the day building the coop and run. Hip is sore because I had to get down low at times—can kneel but shit it hurts.

Niters—all hints have been noted carefully!

  9. I really miss having chooks. Our last one passed away last year. We always let them free range and got lovely eggs from the bums of contented chickens.

  10. MsAdventure,

I hope that Denese now has, and has used, the information she wanted.

I hope you have had an excellent day,

  11. Yes I have thank you Fiona. I have been visiting with family. Probably this was my last day off until 8 Sept, back doing campaign activities tomorrow. Forget the old Never on Sunday.

  12. Fiona,
The wet bedspreads are brill. I am thinking that laying a soaker hose on top with a slow leak should keep it damp.

In the rural area we did not have air-con so I used to hang damp sheets on the side of the baby’s cot when it was a really hot day.

  13. Puffy, I did the same with the damp towels on the cot and then directed the fan at them.

  14. Good mornnig Dawn Patrollers.
There is only rubbish in the papers this morning so BK will take a furlough today.

  15. Wow. 21% of Coalition voters think Tony Abbott isn’t Prime Minister material.

That is, 1/5 of people who say they are going to vote for him anyway.

I wonder whether that is an indication of a softness in their vote …

  16. And by that I mean, people who are still persuadable to change to Labor.

Or is it just the same as when we all held our noses and voted Labor when Latham was leader?

  17. I hope Bob performs well on his W_A_L_K today, although I do wonder why such an old dog hasn’t learnt what that spelling means.

I did the Vote Compass at http://www.abc.net.au/votecompass/

which now has 546,000 responses. It would be interesting to know what their results are compared to Galaxy, Newspoll, Nielsen or Roy Morgan

  18. AS U WILL NOTICE I HAVE WRITTEN THIS FOR PB BUT THOUGHT I WOULD PLACE IT HERE, PLEASE EXCUSE WHAT DOES NOT APPLY
I WROTE IT I MY DOCO AREA AND COPIED SO WILL NOT BE DOING IT OVER=

I suppose I am addressing sensible liberals,

we now have a media out let that is putting our PM out in the streets by ways and highways dressed in a uniform that out men and woman died fighting.

Be very afraid of what your voting for, and who your voting for.

I took my self to twitter, its a jungle out there just like I imagine my inlaws would of fought in holland in 1941 .44 , why ? to talk about labor policies and the liberals No policies
I decided to take them head on and ask questions and the media and ask questions, and stress the above the day before I took on another issued, Hacked, got my account back through the legitimate channels so all good,,,,, but scary, so then I thought I would talk about the war ext and and that uniform, with in a few short hours HACKED again. Its hard to get your account back the second time for few day

I want to TO STRESS at all times I was polite in making my case, and retweeting good points made by tweeters I collected many favourites on the way which made me rather proud
discussion with like mined people I had gathered about 200 followers, and and felt I owed to them to be active, so who hacked my account no idea. Was it because
I was saying all the right thngs, who knows,
    ,
SO we move to the next thing freedom of speech,
be careful do not VOTE YOUR FREEDOM OF SPEACH AWAY
I would say to people like blacksputbeff David WA and a few of the more educated liberals
    think again,
what u are doing, Ok you dont like voting for a party you have never voted for,

BUT MAKE THIS A ONCE in a life time thing to do and I am sure you have worked out why.

You can then work from with the liberal party to bring it back to what it was
WOULD MR MENZIES BE VERY HAPPY ABOUT pm of a democratic gov., being dressed in that uniform he with the Labor PM of the day worked to save the world from what was then and could have been German in invasion and Japanese world wide,.
I looked at MY uncles photo last night and wept there he is buried in France a boy of 19 years who could have had a family , he died fighting this same uniform.

Guytuar I will be relying on you for good tweets especially when Tom arrives from the UK

so I would say IF YOU LOVE YOUR COUNTRY JUST THIS ONCE VOTE ALP
to save from what I dont know, but is it worth the risk
    God speed.

  19. THIS IS a lazyy blog sorry but people here discussing chooks which we have
so why are u not on twitter and out there

getting links for this place, I wonder if it still have 40 hits a week
there is a gardening blog AND chook blog I know of here if u would like
instead hiding in this nice little blog as people call
yes a nice little blog to suck one thump and hide
Leone and a few other put links
why isn’t every one, is there vibrance and movement here ask your self that

last night I sent the link of the Murdoch selling the poster link not one comment, why bother.
get off your backside and work to save the country

    all talk no action

do u realise kid could buy these posters have them printed and start wearing nazi t shirts,

my god get off your bums
    is not my type of

whats wrong with you BB< Julia does not want a gov, like this
I wouldn't even start to call it a liberal party after what I ve seen and heard this week

  20. political…those two chooks…they look like they could be delicious with a bit of preparation!
I had a yarn I got from my brother many years ago about a couple of young ‘back to earthers’ who sought his advice on despacting chooks for the table…great yarn, but perhaps a little too long for a post.

denese….it’s Sundee…give God a serve, not us!..after all..Tony’s one of “his”…he should keep him in line!
